[quote="elektrik_muz"] the Akai 2.1 OS has a known bug in it's drive formating routine which can cause gradual or immediate data corruption. It may not produce a functional problem right away but sooner or later etc. etc...Akai v1.07 supposedly does not have this problem, but that OS will not support a hard drive larger than 2 gigs. So the only method I know of for dealing with this is to backup all data and install the "illicit" JJ OS 3.06 (which corrects this error -- you can also use JJ v4 if you want to buy it) and re-format your drives. After that, you can re-install the Akai OS if you want too and the problem should, in theory, go away. The problem is not in the saving but the initial formating of the drive.
This happened to me recently...i formatted a 40gb hard drive with the 2.1 and now it wont allow me to make a new folder on the hard drive without crashing, also i saved a project last night to a new folder that i made when it was connected to my computer....i then come to load the program this morning and the files were totally ****!! The characters were unreadable, and it was reading the program size as 999.2Mb!!!!
Now, i know this may be a problem that has occured due to me formatting with 2.1 as electric_muz had pointed out, but i have 2 main questions......
1. Will installing the JJ OS v3.06 and formatting the hard drive with that version correct this problem??
2. Is it a known problem that when connecting the MPC to a PC, windows regonises it, installs it but then doest show it in my computer as a hard drive?? Now....when i first connected the MPC to my computer this is what happened, it would show the MPC when double-clicking on the safely remove hardware icon, but it took around 2 and a half hours of connecting, re-connecting the usb cables, restarting the PC and the MPC for it to finally recognise the drive properly and show it my computer to allow me to transfer files. Since that first time it has been cool, ive tranferred to and from my PC many times, but since the internal hard drive totally messed up last night, ive come to connect to the PC and back up my files before trying the JJ OS and had the same damn problem!!
WTF is this about???
Someone must be able to help me out here,
thanks guys, Jay
