mpc 4000 vs roland mv-8000

ive been doin some reading on both as i plan to cop one or the other pretty soon...
and i get the feeling that the roland is actually more powerful of a machine... not only that but better customer service and a vga screen with a mouse will be a vailable in june to i wont have to stare at a calculator type screen...
i dont know... at first i thought the mpc was god... but this thing seems to rival it...
anyone got any info

The MV-8000 is much more powerful in some aspects, but I think it's all about what you're looking for. I was pondering the same thing, a few months ago and I thought, hey the MV-8000 does alot more than the MPC. I went to The Guitar Center and tried it out and here's the truth. The effects are good, the acid import and time stretch is good, the 8 stereo audio tracks are good, but hey, I use a computer to record my tracks so I already have that, and let's face it, the most important thing that you have to consider is the sound qaulity( mpc 24bit, mv-8000 16bit), and the support for the product ( akai specializes in the mpc and roland doesn't) example: I bought a MMP-2 preamp from roland and now they have discontinued it, I bought a audio interface\control surface from event and now they don't sell those anymore. My advice to you would be to buy a MPC along with a computer and there will be no limits to what you can do.

True. If I could only own one peice of gear and it had to be either the 4k or the roland. I would probably choose the roland. But since I have a computer, PT and keyboards... you know the rest. Haven't used a MV but cats are saying that the 4k sounds and "feels" better.

urg at this topic, but ya the Roland isnt doing anything new there just adding existing feature to what anyone with a decent setup already has

But if your looking for all in one you may have found your product, other people especially MPC_Producer or MV_Producer will use a whole bunch of fancy words and really try to make you believe in it like it was a present comming down from heaven, but the truth of the matter is its just a combination of existing products.....

Not to mention, the MV community is seriously lacking in comparison to the MPC community, and MPC users are all part of the same family if you got a 60 or a 4000

THAT'S WEAK COMPARED TO THE AKAISYS PROGRAM THEY HAVE OUT FOR THE 4K. IT ACTUALLY LETS YOUR COMPUTER WORK WITH YOUR 4K

These are two different machines.....All I can say about the MV is is it user UN friendly..........The 4k is simple for the most part but very deep sampler...the MV has some nicer FX but you know..if youre a pro who uses FX in the unit anyway...The simplest plug ins for your mac or pc smoke any of these anyhow.........My opinion is the 4k kills the MV and I have been messin with both of them.of course I am a 4k owner but Im unbiased n my opinions and spent several days with the MV and...like those dudes use to say on In Livin Color..."HATED IT"!!

yeah, I got da MPC4K and I copped a MV back in december. After a couple weeks of frustration, I returned the MV to the store, ya know what I'm sayin'?
Put it simple: the sequencer of the MV is linear only. Da MPC can do pattern-based and linear sequencin'.
If ya don't wanna do patterns for creatin' beats and loops, the MV might be OK 4 ya.
Anywayz, the MV's only half the resolution of da 4K and it just don't have da MPC 'feel'. Plus, the MV's seq only got 1 midi in, 2 midi outs and 16 internal channels. Da 4K's got 2 midi ins, 4 midi outs and 128 internal parts, ya feel me?

Sure, it's got 8 'audio tracks' but read closer: it ain't no disk recorder, it's in RAM like the sampler. It's cool but I can sample vocals and phrases with mine 4K too and at 24bit, not 16bit like the MV. Plus, if I really wanna track I use my disk recorder sync'ed up to da 4K.
And check out the sampler, da 4K's 10 times mo' powerful: 24bit, mo' filters, mo' modulations, lfo's, etc and mo' sound libraries. Da 4k can read MPC2K/3K, S3K/5K/6K, roland S700 and EMU 3/4 samples AND programs, ya dig?

I said it b4, the MV's a rip-off and they put sum 'bells and whistles' to cover for their half-*ss job on the sequencer and sampler.

HEY HAVE YOU THOUGHT ABOUT THE FANTHOM X..THIS IS HOT...BOTTOM LINE UP FRONT.......

I will have to see if the mv8k will match up! I have the lil mighty 1k right now but later this year I will have one of the BIG DAWGZ tho either the 4k or the mv8k! I would like to kno more opinions on why peeps cop the 4k over the mv8k! I kno alot of cats are goin to say the 4k but if someone Thanks different and like the Mv8k over the 4k holla at me Thankx!

The MV8000 does record in pattern mode you have to upgrade to 3.5 version of the os.

none of those people had 3.5 back 10 years ago when this thread was made.
