MPC 3000 VGA Card

Hi 2 All of you,

i´m new to this forum and you all helped me a lot. Special thanks to DJ Chief who deliveres me a perfect working scsi cardreader for my 3k

So now i got a question which the search function doesn´t answers... I´m considering to buy that AKIB-CRT VGA interface but i´m unsure about the connection to a tft... some talk about a special transfomerbox they have used, others said that they used old macintosh crt´s. So could anybody help me out with a pic of the interface or some more informations ? I know that it is a monochrome output, but i don´t even know e.g. how much pins are on the connector. I´m into computer stuff, beeing a sysad for 10 years so don´t hesitate to get real deep into specifications lol

It's a regular VGA socket as found on computers (see below).
I have heard of a tft working with it but you are unlikely to find one that works.
Even with a CRT you might have to try a few before you find one that works. Look for older models (usually smaller screens - 15" or less).

Good news is that people give them away now. Either check your local recycling classifieds or pick them up near peoples trash cans.

is it possible to see inside the MPC to see the full card option IB-CRT

My guess would be that NO regular TFT will work with the VGA output of the optional card. Youl will need one of those ancient monochrome LCDs or a converter box that will translate the old monochrome signal to todays standards and therefore giving you the right output for a modern TFT.
I have no idea if these are really in production, just an assumption.

Remember those old supermarket LCDs from back in the days?
They are like 10" wide or something tiny but they are monochrome so I'd try one of those if i were you. IMO one of those 13" screens would look MUCH sicker behind a 3k and it will also look a bit oldschool just like the 3000

c.toon: i was on the same track regarding this old school supermarket type of lcd´s - i found some at ebay for about 60 bugs ... i´m still not sure of spending 80 dollars for that vga interface; it´s more like boys and their toys instead of a must-have argument in my head. But if anyone is interested: cimpleparts still does deliverer this interface. Got a different problem now... padsensor is broken and i wait for a friend to send me the sparepart from london to cologne... argh

Cimplespares have been out of stock for a long time. Armen's Music in NY is the only place I could find one and I looked for months. Lots of monitors will work. I plugged an nec 17" lcd into it and it worked without an adapter. Old monitors like monochrome ataris work too, I ended up with a 10" one. Just try a few monitors and you'll probably find one that does the trick.

thank you for the infos. They still advertise this vga interface on their website, so i dropped them a mail about in-stock status... I´ll post the reply. Got Armen´s Music, NY a website ? Didn´t find them on google... About the monitor issue: if i got a interface, i´ll try some old pos lcd... this would look sick, maybe with a wallmart sticker on it - we´ll see hrhrhr

MUHA. That´s very unexpected...

If anyone got a hint where i else can get that interface - don´t hesitate.

CimpleSpares are a joke. I had to ring them when they forgot to send me my order. Their website is very inaccurate as far as their stock goes. I don't blame you for trying to find somewhere else.







Edit: In case it helps, here is the label on my monitor. It's dated 1994 and definitely works with the vga card.

I don't think Armen has a website, he's always on ebay though and he keeps his number in the auction info. I looked EVERYWHERE, I thought I was pretty resourceful and I couldn't find one for months. I even offered $350 for it here a couple times and nobody had one. Armen shipped it really fast and it worked perfectly.

A while back, I contacted a local OEM LCD supplier to see if they had any LCDs that would work with the MPC3000. I sent them the Akai VGA board specs, they responded...this board requires "Sync on green" which none of their current LCDs will do.

Just for laughs I hooked up my MPC3000 to the VGA port on my 42" Panasonic plasma screen.

Not expecting it to work, I was amazed when the familiar MPC screen showed up perfectly at 42"!

There you have it, the ultimate Bling-Bling MPC300 studio setup, MPC3000/42" Plasma!
