Hooking up recycle with the MPC3000

Just want to know if I can hook up the MPC3000 with Recycle

Not directly with any real form of control ... However...

If you are using a PC then the following will help.

www.propellerheads.se RECYCLE 2.0 can save loop/spliced/diced files in AKAI S5000 *.AKP format with a matching MIDI file for timing purposes when re-constructing the files on said external rackmount sampler.

www.midicase.com MPCEDITOR can import the *.AKP file created by Recycle 2.0 and map then save as an MPC3000 *.PGM and *.SND combination.

You then load this *.PGM and *.SND combination into your MPC3000 along with the matching MIDI file that was ouput by RECYCLE.

The result ?

RECYCLE sample slices assigned to pads and sequenced in order via the loaded MIDI file.

Consult the documentation that comes with these packages for more information.

Rohans advice is dead on.

Too bad they don't make MPCEditor for the Mac. I wish I could say the same for the MPCPGMMAKER. Although it works great for getting samples into the 2000XL, its giving me mixed results for the 3000.

MPCEditor goes a little further with formatting your Zip disk. etc. Every program I've created on that for the 3000 has done what I needed.

I use MPCPGMMAKER on a Mac and a MPC3000 and I rarely have problems. I know it doesn't format disks, but it usually works fine for me.

how are you getting your programs into the 3000? If you burn a CD are you formatting it a certain way (image disk), etc.? let me know how exactly are you making it work. cheers.

I don't deal with CDs. It's all Zip Disks for me.

I did answer your question.
I use Zip disks to exchange files from Mac to MPC.
I do not use CDs to do that.

Rohan has written about CDs and the MPC3000.
Youy can look up that info on this forum.
I don't happen to know where it is.

The rest of the details deals with the basic use of MPCPGMMAKER.
...saving files in a particular format that's outlined in the software info.

I went to 3000 Yahoo Group yesterday & looked at most of the threads (some by you!) & here too.

How are you are formatting the Zip disk & what process are you doing to make this succesful? It looks like it needs to be formatted for the MPC. However, from what I understand, you would only be able to use 1 of the 4 partitions. So, giving you a lot less than 100mb. I guess you could load a couple of programs into the partitioned disk, load them into the 3000 and then save all the programs on the remaining partitions & repeat!?!

I only tried using MPCPGMMAKER with a CD, but that never worked well for the 3000. I use a PC laptop for MPCEditor & getting samples on the Zip disk for the 3000. MPCEditor formats the Zip disk into one big partition which makes sense.

Its really easy for me to get pgms into the 2KXL, but I would love to be able to use the 3000 for some of the stuff I do inside the Mac. Or at least make the steps a bit easier.

Yup. You spelled it out perfectly.
Only one partition is seen by the MPC.

I use one or more [labeled as such] disk as my MPC 3000 Master disk.
Then I have some other transfer [labeled as such] disks. The transfer disks go back and forth between the MPc and the Mac. I usually erase them often. The Master disk, only goes into the MPC. Never the Mac. [I also have a Zip drive in my Mac and an external Zip drive for the MPC.]

I usually never have a MPC program larger than 25mbs, so I'm cool.

Try the 3000 and the Zip method for a minute. See if it works for you. Maybe it won't. But give it a try.

i checked that midicase link and found that MPC Editor will not work with the 60 OS 2.12..

For me mpc editor is a 'MUST HAVE' Piece of software, it make life so much easier

If you have a PC?, yes. MPCEditor is a super tight little program. I like being able to format the zip disk into one big partion. Thats cool.

The workaround discussed above with the MPCPGMMAKER/Mac works well. I've been using with both the 2000XL & 3000. Its a good workaround once you get used to it.
