Grimy Sampler

Thanks for all of the input guys. I have no idea what I am supposed to get... I have been looking at the ASR since they seem to be accepted by a lot of people as incredible, and I wanted to get a new midi controller as well, so that could be a nice set of keys? or is that all jus a waste?

if you can still find a sp-202 you can get some grit from it, but i'd say go w/ a 303 though I like the sound I still get from my 202

To do better than the Zoom, you need at least an Emax which is 3 to 4 times the price and old as the hills. Even an S950 won't do what the Zoom does. The SP1200 is amazing gear but the Zoom is close and about 1/12th the price.

The Roland Sp303 is a similar unit.. and I imagine it is very similar to the Zoom (some say better) in sound mangling etc... I've just not used it myself (and that seems to be a sticking point in this thread...)

Never used one but love the crunchy sound. Check most of the stuff put out by Anticon esp Jel's "10". It was made exclusively with the sp-1200 and his beats is the goodness.

you can pick up that zoom sampler for around £30 on ebay. i'd say thats a pretty nice deal for a 12bit sampler with effects.

I think it's 16 bit

lol just checked the specs - 18bit AD/DA converters

roland s-550 or s-330 is dope and cheaper than the 950s and emax. Actually it sounds like a happy medium between akai and emu/ensoniq they're the rack versions of the s-50 and w-30. The zoom however has my curiosity at the moment.

hmmm... i dunno, its one of those things where they're are so many options... that i could go with anything yaknow? I found a decent priced kurzweil, i dunno if thats that good, but it has a keybaord also which is nice, well see...

if you go with an emu sp 12, or sp1200 you won't be dissapointed sound wise.

what is it that makes the sp1200 so incredible? and i only saw one for sale for almost a grand... steep.
