MCP 2500 MIDI help with Reason

I'm trying to connent my MPC 2500 with Reason 3.0 via MIDI however I'm having some troubles. I'm useing a midisport 4x4 and they are connected, but all I can do is get the "play" and "stop" buttons working. I want to connect the pads with redrum, to start. Do i need to set up channels ?? Or what can i expect to do in reason with my mpc?

Play and Stop etc are MMC controls. Which means that in your MIDI SYNC options you have selected MMC which is half way there.

MPC
The second thing you need to do is set up a channel. So drums normally go on channel 10.

On track one, set the TYPE=MIDI and then change the Track MIDI number to 10.

Reason
I havent used reason for donkeys. But basically you want to go in to reason options and select the MIDI card in the MIDI setup.

Once this is done load the modules and then hit a key on the MPC you should see LED's flickering on the modules - that means the Midi is getting to the application.

Unless you have problems with your connection this is all pretty simple stuff.

I recently just set up my 2500 to sync up with reason, and i was having the same problems you were having. Phlexter helped me out with his post http://www.mpc-forums.com/viewtopic.php?t=62317&highlight=perfect+reason+mpc
and some emails to clarify things. I find his method a lot faster and more usable than setting up all the different devices on different midi channels.

You seem to have the 2500 synced right if your transport controls on the mpc are controlling Reason 3.0. So here are some quick steps to have things running right:

on the mpc:

- create a new program, you will want to save this to have all these settings saved as a type of template when you want to use your mpc to control reason.

- switch the mode from "drum" to "midi" then leave it on midi channel 1a, you will not have to change this later on.

- go into "program" mode. Then into the "notes" section. You will notice that these notes are not in numerical order. Assign note "36" to pad 1, note "37" to pad 2, and so on. You may choose to do this for just bank a, or all 4 banks, its up to you. (REdrum only uses the first 10 notes to trigger sounds)

**If you have ever used Reason with a keyboard midi controller such as an M-Audio Oxygen 8 or Radium 49 you will know that you have to go down one octave to trigger sounds on the REdrum. By fixing the notes this is the same concept.

- Press Rec+Play and record your drum loop or what have you on the MPC, this way you can adjust the swing and timing and maintain the MPC feel.

Inside Reason:

- to trigger the different devices with your 2500, click on the little keyboard icon in the sequencer of the device that you want to trigger.

- When you have a drum loop or other programed melody recorded on the mpc that you are satisfied with, press the record icon on the Reason transport pannel then press play on the MPC to begin recording the sequence into Reason. By doing this, you stilll keep the 2500's timing and swing as stated as before
