grow the phuck up geee. This is the MPC forum. not mixing and mastering for professionals. go back to your ssl and expensive pres.

oh yeah and why the hell are you here just go mic up a drum kit with your valuable production techniques.

i thought we are here to help

please delete that late comment, it may waste other readers time

or at least have this good engineer enlighten us with his mixing abilities

ooh mr mpc dont need no production skills... sorry to spoil your hip hop fantasies haha

the guy asked how to fatten drums? im tellin you theres a couple ways to do it; one involves work and knowledge and one only sorta does. you could pick a new sound out of your collection of whatever and be done with it. oh man what an involved process. you could try a FREE PLUGIN and see if it sounds any better. oh but you gotta know how to use a compressor and what youre actually doin to the beat...

cmon admit it, you couldnt produce your way out of a wet paper bag haha! if this is what talent has shrunken to over the last 20 years or more and youre determined to enjoy it as it is then HEY thats your choice.

i was only remarking that it would be nice to see someone doing things smartly with their computers and mpcs, getting the results they want in the first place. but if youre not willing to try, then you might as well pick a new sound from your grab bag haha!

how boring. unless you do something cool with it. and im not dismissing it as a possibility mind you. we all know how good it can sound when you sample a good song that sounds good. this is the mpc forum after all!

???

Ok... Stop all that... Slapping plugins on Drums or layering them... There are no rules to sound in Hip Hop... the layer techinques are widely used... some producer go for the sound the want at creation.. not after the fact... Not to do away with engineers... but more producers and into tracking there beats and recording their artist in the house... besides a big studio... It would of been cool for you just to add on... but to diss this as a "lazy" or unprofessional techique is wrong...

So, what are some compressor settings to fatten up a Kick?

... Mr. JJos killed your drummers (just poking) LOL

just laffin back at the thought of bein stuck with someone elses audio to choose from... and its not a setting, its whats appropriate for the kit, and specifically what this plugin or that piece of hardware will do to your audio that will make drums fat.

blah

i personally think sampling records is a wack excuse for making a beat, even tho its all over music for as long as there have been samplers.

man production equipment isnt hard to learn, you just need to be willing to step up from a simple mindset to a logical mindset. in this way i think it requires 'knowledge' but is it impossible to know? no. and when you find out something badass, it feels good to have it to use from then on.

this 'new' mpc has 'new'(er) features that allow greater integration with computers than ever before. its basically an open door to limitless possibilities, sonically speaking. yet there are so few who are willing to take the steps necessary to exploit all of what is at their fingertips, to a potentially much better end. it bothers me. cause when i say something halfway intelligent, no one has a clue. cause they dont need no production skills, they just choose the next sound.

dont ak like is not true

production techniques and their value are for anyone willing to step up to the plate.

thats how you make a fat beat.

ummmmm.... uhhhh.... not made with the mpc. and certainly not mastered beats... but i have a few fun little loops on myspace from a few years ago.

i have recently been working with a friend scoring a local sci-fi production called 'in zero'... but i do have loops sitting around from the mpc... maybe i could upload one or 2? im feeling lazy tho...

I dont get you, alien, what you are saying is kinda true, but u write some (necessary) techniques and then yu whine about noone using stuff like that, i dont get the point at all... because they are not writing the same tips? You wrote them already.

And btw, layering without editing and fx doesnt make sense, and for me theres no line between production and mix of a beat

thanks for clearing things up.

i like to set my compressors like this

threshold= -10
a=12 (in the mpc)
r= (usually fast) unless it a long bass note of some sort
ratio= infinity:1 when i want it crushed

then maybe thro an eq after that and boost as high as possible and sweep the freqs until you find something you like. you could try this and then resample so you can keep using the same tools on different sounds.

sorry holmes, im not a producer but can i borrow some of your loops

i hope youre sampling after your compressor and eq. this was my point from the start.

UAD-1 would be nice. of course. but how many actually know what it is? so theres a few of you who do, congratulations. why havent you spoken up in this thread? all i can see is people talking about layering until i said no, layering isnt all it takes and then everybody wanted to say oh but im a producer too, and this is how you make your beats fat lol! only after i pointed out how many were giving the same tip did anyone with any production knowledge speak up!

so whining? im not whining. my gripe was legit.

and i hope you arent planning to use the same compressor settings for everything, all the time? that would be stupid. dont you agree?

cmon yall give me a break. im just frustrated that no one chimed in until there was a pissing match haha! and btw i think you layering people need to know how its done. ill point you in the right direction, but you also want me to give you the digits? why? find out for yourself! thats part of the fun, innit?

but thanks for seeing my point.

alien, dude you sound like a dickhead. i personaly though your shit sucked arse from the opening sample on the first track that came on "intruder alert" oh. So original. I dont liek spending a million years on a pc mixing and do believe you can get shit straight of the mp that bangs. everything from thre is fixups. If you dont liek sampling your choice I sample im a dj/producer, sorry ive i dont have a UAG-1 or GAY-2. I do Hip hop not sound design.

Didnt want to start alien-bashing, just didnt understand your reaction. What you wrote was right and theres no adding to it (like what settings to use and stuff, that doesnt work) only maybe get some good speakers and listen and learn...

Btw i own an UAD and i love it :D
