Disk error?

Hi guys

I bought my MPC2000 for cheap from a guy who said the disk drive was busted. Thinking I could bypass it, I bought a zip drive and the OS disk and tried to boot up. the MPC detects the ZIP device, but it still reads "insert OS disk" and won't allow me to do anything. Any ideas?

Sorry if this is a dumb question- I've looked through the archives for answers but couldn't find anything similar.

I opened up the box and didn't see any evidence of a hard drive. Should there be some sort of hard drive inside? All it has right now is the disk drive.

if you want to boot the mpc whether from the floppy- or zip-drive, you need to have a start-up disk with the os on it. you can download the os free from the akai homepage, then unzip it on a new disk (floppy or zip) and boot the mpc with this disk inside. once the mpc is bootet you can copy the os from the floppy to the zip or from the zip to the floppy drive

Unzip the file straight onto a new(!!!) formatted floppy. put it in your machine and switch on.

Thanks 303. I actually have the startup OS on the zip drive, but it's still giving me the error. "Please Insert OS Disk." I checked the zip drive, and it works...OS is definitely on there. I'm thinking something may be missing in the hardward. The ribbon cable that connects the disk-drive to the board has an adaptor in the middle with nothing attached to it. Should there be an internal hard disk of sorts?

Maybe I could take a pic of the internals and link it up.

Is it an internal scsi or ide zip drive?
