a phrase that really changes my opinion about MPC's...

MPC's are like video games, everyones got one...?


a friend told me this. i realized it wasn't a lie. when MPC first came out they were rare, they were used, they did thier job well. but now over a decade later, the are so popular, everyones getting them. the best producers use them, the cats getting into the hobby use them. whats the deal?

anyways, im seriously contemplating getting an MPC 1000, i have been saving up, and soon it will be decision time.

basicly im asking for opinions about the phrase:

and are drum machines the way of the future? or are they a thing of the past getting it's last snares in?

I don't think drum machines are going anywhere. Especially the MPC. Everybody's got a ****' guitar, ukulele (one of the most crunk), banjo (too ill for words), harmonica (Hell Yeah!!), accordian (fresh shit!) rubber band and index finger (a personal favourite of mine), and no one talks about those like their going out of style, oh and my own personal favouite...the doubled up table spoons that you hit on your knee.

Just because everyones got one doesn't means it's not as good or it's going the way of the dinosaur (Flintstones are dope though better than the Jetson's, and the dinos came back in Jurrassic park through science and technology....marinate on that one for a minute...it's deep!).

I think it's a reflection on how dope these little tools are. Nowadays they are just more accessible because a lot of people know about them, and production is no longer a mystery.

It's also a testament to how much Hip Hop and related art forms are a part of our society and culture today. Think about it. There are a lot of expensive hobbies out there. This isn't the only expensive one out there you know (producing...making beats and shit!). Say if you want to get into a sport like Hockey. It costs like a thousand or more to get dope equipment, just like producing. Anyways, I'm losing my train of thought I better go now! Bye! And get your goddam MPC already!

Man, the sp 1200 and the rhodes and all that is all part of the past, yet there is a lot of people making freat music on them, even though there is like 20 / 50 years of technological advancement in new products, these are still around, highly coveted and hopefully well taken care of.

The newest equipment isn't always better, that is the lie of technology, it doesn't equal progress.

Just look at the planned obcelescence in new gear. There's a new virus and nord every year, and they do pretty much the same thing. Plus, thry don't make stuff like they used to.

This shouldn't even be a question, it sound's like someone likes to be Lucifer's attorney ;)

so? what's the deal? I don't see any problems with that. I've been writing this all over this forum: Everybody can own an MPC, but not everyone will be able to make dope tracks with it. There is more to music, then just the equipment that you own.

It seems that way since you hang out with a bunch of MPC owners.

I spend a lot of my day hanging out with people that do not know what an MPC is and could case less what an MPC is. Yes they are musicians.

Anecdotal experience does not constitute fact.

If more musicians have it, chances are it's a good instrument.

You can't fault a device for it's popularity.
