choppy/skipping recordings from laptop

yeah one up, go into your control panel and open your audio setings in windows, or sounds, or multimedia.

You open up a mixer and you can select the mic or line input.

yeah i foxed with that already, i maxked line in to about 90%

then in the regular settings, the one with the master volume, when i move line in up or down, it just makes it so the laptop can put it out ouder or softer, but it doesn't bring the recording signal up or down. and it's too weak.

by the way, this computer i am on isn't my laptop, it's the family computer

I'm stumped. I'm sure it's something simple that's just slipping our mind, it usually is.

check the select box in the line in channel.

Then boost your levels going in to the card. The mic input is amped (poorly).

I'm guessin' he already did that(if not then do that) cuz he said the pic he posted was of a desktop not his laptop.

Keep in mind that even if you get the line in working you're still not gonna like the quality of the recording, laptops audio inputs are noisy and you're not gonna get a clean recording out of it without a decent audio interface. I recorded a couple of tracks through my laptop inputs and guess what, garbage. I can get excellent takes through my MBox or EZBus though. Just something to consider.

i plan to get a decent soundcard in the near future anyways
