Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

I am new to the MPC 2000XL and I have started to attempt recording beats. I am having a problem though..

Whenever I am making sounds, they are repeated in the next bar.

For example, if I play four sounds in Bar 1, I hear those same four sounds repeated in Bar 2.. If I play four sounds in bar 3 I hear the same four sounds in Bar 4..

I hear the sounds that repeat + the sounds I am trying to play, and it becomes very frustrating. I have LOOP set to OFF and I searched through the whole manual but cant figure out what it is. Could anyone help?

you can set pads to mute other pads too, this DEF comes in handy. you can do that by hitting shift + program, then params. and go to where you can change it from poly to mono to note off, and press open window. this will bring up the mute screen. try it out.

poly allows the same sample to overlap itself, until it runs out of poly, mono is like a mono mode ona synth, you can only key it once, anymore triggering will restart the sample, note-off is a gated method
