MPC 500 WITH ABLETON LIVE 6

so is anyone using this combo?
is one being slaved to another or vice versa?
or is one a beat machine when your inspired to use it and not the other, and vice versa?

so hows your setup if your running ableton live 6 (or another version) and an MPC 500 .... I ask because im a Live 6 user about to buy a 500.

I've seen your posts on the Ableton forum, i'm also looking to get a 500 to sync with my Live 6 setup.

It's the sync issue that i'm most interested to find out about as i'm not sure which way round it'll be best to do it: Live > MPC or MPC > Live. Once that's sorted i'm thinking of using it to add extra layers to my songs and, once my skills are up to it, play some beats/seqs on the fly into Live to then be remixed and effected using the Abes plug-ins.

Keep us posted as to how you get on once you pick up ya 500

word im not sure either.
maybe even do it more of an old school style, make a beat on mpc(samples already cut on Live and with FX) then make the whole song, track each track by track into Live arrangement window via MIDI then tweak some more and add more touch ups (FX,etc) and then for shits n giggle take that final version bounced (track by track) and load it into mpc, and keep drums seperate (unless i coould transfer Live's MIDI data into the MPC after.) so i could mess with drums while having complete song stems for the rest of the song final mixed in ableton to play in MPC ....

I hear ya. Although I enjoy writing in Ableton i'm looking forward to sequencing and putting ideas together on the 500, especially being able to do it on my travels. I will certainly be prepping my samples in Live beforehand though.

My previous post was more related to live peformance, which is why the sync issue is so important. I'm probably gonna be using a DSI Evolver as well so maybe it'll be best to have the MPC as the master with Live and the synth slaved.

Just found out that i've gotta move though, so not sure how long it'll be til I have any spare £££. But they are down to £450 here now so it won't be to long I hope

It's a beaut. The sequencer is great and the audio input is the icing on the cake. My 500 will definitely be getting processed thru it....

o ok so the other way around, but u sample audio from the evolver obviously thru to the 500 then back into the evolver for the filters?

I use the MPC500 with Live and it works fine either way, as a master to Live or in slave mode.

I usually use the MPC500 (as slave) to put together quick sketches and then use Track SOLO to record into Ableton (master). Works remarkably well.

but then you lose the akai style of swinng to it.

Well the MPC midi is tight, but ableton is not unfortunately, i'm having sync offset from time to time, and the worst is when several machines are in sync, i can only use ableton as a master as i often change the tempo and this is a bit more complicate to handle for me on the MPC while in live situation...

i have a little different setup, 2000xl with live 5 (osx power pc)

but it works well. i have a motu midi interface and i think that helps things work smoothly, i love that thing.

anyway most of the time i use the mpc as the master and the computer as the slave. that way i can use the transport on the MPC for start and stop and stuff like that. sometime i'll use a softsynth sequenced by my MPC too if i feel like it. probably won't use any softsynths anymore now that i have my waldorf microQ though...
