TASCAM PORTASTUDIO 788 VERSUS KORG 1600

I consider buying either one. The Tascam is cheaper there is plenty for sale on ebay. The Korg seems to be better quality . Can you help me? Thank you

First of all, one is an 8 track, one is a 16 track. Do you know what you want? If you are considering the tascam, I would assume you only need the 8 tracks. The Korg may be a little overboard. I don't own or have used either one so I can't tell you which one is better, but a guess would be the Korg 1600. But then again that may be overboard for what you are doing. If you want someone else's opinion, let em know what you are doing with it, money you got to spend etc. Let us in on all the details so we can help you out better, otherwise a vague question may get nothing but a vague answer...

Yes You are correct, the D1600 is a better machine
, I've had one for about a year now. But will cost you more.

The Tascam has no XLR inputs, No phantom power,Only 8 tracks of playback .

The 788 has digital output, but not digital input. Olny comes with a 7.5 gig drive ( d1600 come with a 40 gig drive )

The D1600 has TouchView Screen, Built in drum machine , Tuner , 4 XLR inputs, Built -in CDRW


So Tascam = $700+ $ for CDRW ,Larger Hard disk, Phantom power etc.....

Condenser microphones need an external power supply. Some condenser microphones have a battery attachment that is either part of the microphone housing or on the end of the cable, as part of the connector. Others need power delivered to them through the cable. This power system is known as phantom power. Some mixers provide phantom power, some don't. If they do, there is usually a main phantom switch somewhere. Phantom power sends a voltage of +48VDC through pins two and three of the microphone cable to the microphone capsule. The return voltage comes back via the shield.
