question:

I know the mpc2000XL like the back of my hand, and besides learning on the 2000, this is the only MPC i've ever used.

what do you think the learning curve will be like when i get my 500??

same thing really, plus and minus a few little things. the only difference is u have to scroll around more menus due to the small screen

cool. i just want the most basic hardware sequencer, but i don't trust an ancient one, as it'll be used for live shows. seems like the 500 will be the best bet. thanks for the info

actually for a midi sequencer i would prefer a 2000xl. its not ancient and its proven itself over the years . the 500 is new so it got os bugs and the sequencer section actually lacks a couple of little things that the older machines had but if u got ur mind set on a 500 ...cop it, its definitly easier to log around to shows and stuff

tell me more. i'm reading about the 500 now and have been, but what is missing from the sequencer? my band probably won't play a show for 2-3 months from now so maybe the OS will get an update before then???

and is the 1000 a lot better? i just want something cheap and small. i though about copping an old roland mc-500 or something but i don't trust those or really know how to use it. plus the sampling will be cool too...

i guess " cheap and small" would be the 500 so u already have ur answer. but i dont know what kinda stuff u do live but im pretty sure the 500 could handle. my gripe with it is , on the 2000 while ur playin a sequence u can punch in record then punch out and swith to another sequence without having to stop the sequencer first, u cant do this on the 500 or the 1000, dont know why since these are much newer models, and its not a big deal but kinda annoying when u wanna record something in spontaniously. but i dont think this will an issue for u since ure talakin about live stuff u probably wont be doing a lot of punching in. from what u said i would recomend a 1000 cause u can get one used for less then a 500 cause no one is sellin any used ones yet. plus one of the coolest mpc features (good for live stuff) is the note repeat botton which is big and away form other bottons on the 1000 and its tiny and cramped in with a bunch of other bottons on the 500. i got my 500 more for production and composition work while im away from the lab, if i do a live set im usin the 1000 for sure cause its roomier and there is less of a chance that u will it a wrong botton or somethin. but if ure lookin for somethin cheap i hear good things about the yamaha qy7 sequencer and u can fdind those used for like 100 bucks

cool thanks for the info. i'm gonna do all my programming on the mpc at home, and then on stage i will be singing and playing guitar and keyboard.

i'm have a multi-timbral synth (waldorf microQ keyboard) that will serve as sound module for all my synth sounds, as well as midi controller.

i really just want a stable system that i can cart around to practice and stuff without much trouble. i trust akai's mpc series. i'll have to get my hands on the 500 and check it out...

this may seem like there's no other way, but is there a way to bypass this and get the same effect done?

or u have to stop sequencing?

i dont really understand the question but basically if ure over dubbing/adding parts to a sequence and u wanna switch to the next sequence after ure done u have to stop[ the sequencer and then hit play again. not a big big deal but i kinda like the freedom of flippin back and forth between sequences and adding stuff and seein how it works with the other sequences and stuff without having to stop
but if ure refering to just switchin to different sequences while in play mode this can be done no problem its only when record something and then try to switch to another sequence that it wont let u do it

first off, i'd never need to do this for my application.

second, i can't do this on my 2000XL.
scenario: press play, then play/rec, then play/rec again to stop recording, then spin jog wheel over sequence # to change, with no response. next seq doesn't work either...

so i'm not sure what you're talking about. do you have a 2000 in front of you? maybe the 2000 can do it but not the XL? somehow i doubt that....

i had a 2000 classic that was able to do it so i ssumesd that the xl was capable of it as well

hmm that seems odd that the 2000 could do something the 2000XL can't...

anyone have a 2000 in front of them to check?
