Better or not does not detemine resale price. The largest factor on resale price is the original MSRP, which for the MPC3000 is just under $4000.

I used the mpc3000 since 1996, and used the mpc2000xl all of 2003, now I'm back to the mpc3000. U can move so much faster and the user interface is more logical without all the button pushes to do simple operations as with the 2000. The "timing" is tighter. probably not that noticeable to most. Out of the box the 2000 was a bit "thinner" That's attributed to the better converters on the 2000 that give you a clearer top end- thus giving u the illusion the 3000 is thicker. 3000 screen is bigger and tilts. With all that said the way Roger Linn designed the user interface is why 3000's will stay around. If Linn ever designed a new o/s that allows for 80G hard drives to be connected to the 3000 scsi port- the 4000 would never sell.

Can you state the different model numbers for the converters between the two machines?

Easy,
MPC 3000 / 60 designed for professional studios and audio professionals,
MPC 2000 / XL designed for entry level producers and DJ's not making professional cash.
Just lifting these machines you can see what went into the 60 / 3000 to justify their asking price. While the 2000 / XL were moderately priced with options so you could get it for less cash.
Also, they crash less, if at all.

the 2000's also seem more slapped together from existing products after the brains of the operation left the company (Roger Linn).

2000xl may be 'designed for entry level producers not making professional cash', but you can't deny what pete rock and jaydee, two of the best makers, can do with the xl.
Peace

JayDee uses a 3000. JD aka mr. janet jackson, can use whatever he likes for all I care.
They are all capable machines, I was talking design, plus, pete rock still uses his sp all the time.
I'm not dissing the 2000, these are just manufacturing and design details that you can see in the flesh so to speak.
But if pete rock having a 2000xl makes you feel better, get yours dude.

"I was talking design"
I am too. They internals of the machines (MPC3000, MPC2000) are pretty much the same. In effect, they "slapped' the MCP2000 together from a bunch of MPC3000 parts.
The significant difference in the new prices were less hardware and different manufacturing process.
"professional cash"
There is a difference? :)
