HOW YA'LL FEEL BOUT THE MPC 500!

I bought the MPC500 today. I just plugged it in at work, played the demo song and hit a few of the pads. Man those pads are hard. Can't wait to get it home tonight and pound out some stuff.

They feel solid and not cheap though. They don't double trigger or miss trigger. The 2500 pads are the Lexus pads and the 500 are more like a Civic. They work well but won't win any comfort or style prizes.

this is my first weekend with the mpc500. it's my first time using any kind of mpc. anyway, i constantly have the pads double trigger sounds and it is driving me nuts. am I playing them wrong? or is it a design defect?

If you have sounds layered on the same pad , yes. Check under program and look to see what samples are assigned to the pad(s). L1 should be your main sample anything on L2,L3, or L4 should be removed. If this is not the problem I can't imagine what else it could be.

Looks like other people have this problem initially with the mpc. (did a search on it, which I should have done in the first place) I have to learn to lift the finger right after striking the pad.

Wow that's weird I haven't had this problem.

I'd suggest exhanging the unit.
I don't own a 500, but I've played around with one at Guitar Center.
The pads on the demo unit didn't double-trigger.
Yeah, the pads require a bit more pressure to trigger, which seems to be the norm. But double-triggering doesn't seem normal at all. this usually happens with the 1000, but the 1000's pads are made entirely different with an extremely poor design.
So don't waste any time and exhange it as soon as possible.

My 4000 pads used to double trigger all the time, now they never do. I think the pads have to be wore in a little, they are pretty tight and sensitive at first.
My 500 also used to double trigger when I first got it now it doesnt and I've only had mine for about a month. It took about 3-4 months for my 4000 to stop doulbe triggering.

I also was annoyed by this at first with my 4000 untill I started to read around different forums that this is normal and that it would take some time to settle down.

The pads of the 500 that you played in the store probably has been played with by alot of hands so its probably worn in pretty well and doesnt double trigger anymore. Its almost like the sensors of MPC's have to be "de-sensitzed" so to speak. Like a virgin, touched for the very first time, Or like a guitar player whose fingers hurt at first when he's starting to learn but after a little while the fingers get used to it.

Argh! Not sure what to do now. The lower pads double trigger the most and only when I have "Full Level" turned on. It seems like a defect, because if it was in their design, than all the pads would behave the same. But than again, there have been several posts for other MPC models stating that the double trigger thing is normal, even desirable.

I got it from VST Service. I'll call them Monday or Tuesday after I check out the MPC at the Guitar Center.

Yeah sounds like you need to exchange it.

yeah I'm sure it's on the way. Akai sure is advertising the 500 as one of their hot products for 2007 so they better back it up with a dencent OS.

Here is a quick update on the double trigger issue. I went to Guitar Center in Pasadena and messed around with the MPC500 during lunch. I was able to get it to double trigger every once in a while. I also spent some more time with my MPC500 at home and depending on what surface I had the MPC on, I would get different results. Having it on my lap led to minimal double triggering and playing it on the dinning room table led to the worst double triggering. At this point I won’t sweat it. I think this will be a non-issue for me.

on my 2000XL, when i first got it, i had some double triggering problems. they went away quickly.

when some friends of mine something bang out a beat over here on my 2000XL, they have double triggering problems too.

the MPC is an instrument, and you have to learn how to play it. i rarely get double triggers now (4 years later) and when/if i do, the quantizer gets rid of them...
