Need Help for zip drive....

Hi , today i installed a 250 internal Atapi zip drive in a MPC 2000XL friend , i changed the ATAPI cable , connected to the P82 motherboard connector , and connected the 4 zip power cables to P51 connector...
OS version 1.14 was already installed...
When i try to Load or Save a file , a message appears " ATAPI ERROR " .
Is somebody knows what can be the problem ?

is the zip disk formetted? do you know the drive is good?

when i try , zip disk is not in the drive , because the drive can't receive the zip disk when it runs...I don't understand !? When the zip drive is remove , i can insert a zip disk !

Ok , problem to insert a disk in the drive is resolve...sorry...
But , when i try to load a zip disk of another mpc 2000XL ( formatted disk ) , message " Atapi error " already appears ! Help

maybe your drive is bad? is it an old drive? does it work in a computer or another MPC?

I don't understand , drive works good on a computer before...

ok so you know the drive works. are you sure the mpc is providing power to the drive? you should remove and re-insert the ATAPI cable, and maybe try another cable too, i think you can use IDE cables too...

also make sure the ATAPI cable is not inverted (upside down)

and if there are jumpers on the drive, set them to MASTER

ok , ATAPI cable inverted , i don't know , i will try in the other direction , but jumpers are set to Master .

I've been travelling for a while and my xl has been in suitcase for like a 3 months. just got back home and powered it up. it's exact same thing "atapi error".

I also got this new S950 and i formatted all my old drumkit floppies that i had for xl yesterday.

so no point putting the floppy drive back. haha

I guess i gotta find myself a new drive.

Get a CF reader.

What can i do ?! I test with another zip 250 model ?! I try another way , external scsi drive , cf reader...etc

The zip works ! Today i reloaded the OS 1.14 of Akai Site ( it was installed of the origin on this MPC ) , and it works !
