Midi expert advice needed!!!!! 911!!!!!!!!

Ive had this problem since i got the Mpc. I have like 800 sounds in my keyboard. The pgms on the mpc only goes up to 128. I know when im ready to lay a midi track that i have to set it to midi: device 1a-device a.
lets say i found a nice lil bass sound in my keyboard , and i want to lay it down, when i go through the pgms on the mpc i cant find that sound that i wanted to use. The mpc seems to take sounds randomly from my keyboard. how do i find the sound i want to use for the specified track, out of 800 sounds in my board and the the mpc only goes up to 128? I have lost alot of good ideas for tracks because i cant figure this out. so to summerize this question, how do select the sounds that i want to use for tracks for a sequence when the pgms only go up to 128?

if you talking Midi den you shouldn't be dealing with "sounds"

Sounds are Audio, Midi is Data.

I am trying to figure out what you trying to really do.

I hear you, selecting 800 sounds

But that's normally just a matter of setting the MPC to for instance
channel 1A and go to the Keyboard and take a spin through all the Voices (Sounds) you have available and pick one for track.

Yes i set it so the numbers show with the insturments, but i dont know how the msb/lsb relates to the pgms numbers of 128, or 1a-device01? example: lets say i wanted to use a fretless bass the msn/lsb number is 000-112-035, what would i chosse on the mpc to be able to use that specifc sound for a midi track? and know for sure that exact sound will be used instead of another bass sound or another sound period. Any help from any body will be greatly apperciated. Im sure once i finally get this masterd i will be up and running with my beat making. peace & love

Go to the step edit screen. press Insert. type: control change. choose the msb. enter it. insert another control change. choose the lsb (you have to turn the dial clockwise for a little bit). enter that.

Have you done that?
That should work, I think. If you have the msb and lsb set up right then it should be the sound you want. If you cant get it to work at first, keep messing with it by trying diffferent Msb/lsb #s. Good luck.

ok in the msb/lsb number 000-112-035 wich part of the number is the msb and wich part is lsb? by the way what does msb/lsbv mean?

Most significant byte/Least significant byte.

I'm guessin' that 000 is the MSB and 035 is the LSB. If you insert these values the way descartes explained and used the MPC to scroll to 112(it might be 111 on the MPC) it should be the fretless bass. Good luck.

it seems that msb is some sort of volume control on the mpc, because when i activate the msb and use the wheel to increase the value it goes up to 127 wit some sort of status bar. i dont think 000 is the msb because all of the instruments in my board start with 000. so i think its between 112-035. that are the msb/lsb. plus i dont dont see where you can input an lsb number. i tries the method that u guys suggested and when i hit the keys on the keyboard i got no response, no sound no nothing!! i know it must be something im missing or doing wrong please continue to help until i get this problem solved. peace and love

035 is the fretless bass.......midi program number 035........I thought you had this figured out

When you insert the data in the MPC it should look like this.

>CONTROL CHANGE: BANK SEL MSB: 0
>CONTROL CHANGE: BANK SEL LSB: 35
>PROGRAM CHANGE: 112

or

>CONTROL CHANGE: BANK SEL MSB: 0
>CONTROL CHANGE: BANK SEL LSB: 112
>PROGRAM CHANGE: 35

You don't have to insert the program change, you can just use the program value in the main screen to scroll to the correct voice.

i followed all u guys instructions to a tee!!!! i thought i finally had it, but............. diddly squat. I dont know what to do!!!!! i keep geting some odd bass sound thats not the sound im looking for. im so sick with i want to throw up. i know u guys gave me good advice. maybe i got something set wrong in my keyboard. if anybody still wants to take a stab at it please leave a response. if not i dont blame you. peace & love

this is really confusing. whenever i've sequenced a keyboard through my mpc i've never dealt with the programs. the programs are strictly for organizing internal sounds (ei WAV, SND). what i would recommend is, first, making certain my midi connections are correct and reboot. then, on the main screen, set your tracks up like this:

Tr:01-track-01
S:MIDI : 1A-Device01

from here you can trigger your keyboard sounds from your MPC pads as well as record MIDI info from your keyboard. obviously you'll want to switch tracks and device numbers (from 1A-Device01 to 2A-Device02) for each sound you want to use on your board. well, sorry if i've been redundant or this further contributes to the confusion, but i hope this helps.

One last thing, make sure to push PLAY after you insert these messages in the MPC, the MPC won't make the necessary bank change until you push play. Also, don't insert the program change and just scroll through the voices using the program value on the MPC and see if the bass sound you're looking for is anywhere in there, if it is then at least we know the bank info is correct, if it's not...................................back to the drawing board. I gotta tell you, it's killin' me that we can't figure this out.
