don't sweat it. sh!t happens when theres functions some people never get around to using.
i havent used it in a while. so what i just realized is that in order to solo a track, you need to hold down F6 (SOLO) before hitting the pad (track) you want to solo.

actually what im looking to do is this

i have a few tracks with a long sample, like a string section that plays one note for 5 seconds or something. and i want to mute it as its playing, to give it a choppy effect, without actually chopping it up, cuz that would be a pain in the azz.

does that make sense? what i said i mean? i been listening to a lot of sample based music lately and have noticed producers do that, mute the sample and bring it back with a retrigger. is that how they do that? or am i wasting my time with the mute tracks?

thanks for the response dt. much appreciated.

yeah, you can do that.
record that sample on to a separate track. then when you go into the track mute section, press the WINDOW button that's lit up.
You'll see the option for "Mute/Stop of one-shot sample". Change that from THROUGH (which is set by default) to IMMEDIATE.
Now you can mute any part of the sample as you'd like. :)

no problem. glad i could help. you're gonna have alot of fun recording track mutes, using the overdub while in the track mute screen. :)

yeah, that ish is nice. but it kills a lot of my songs because i built drum tracks in track one, and its a pain in the ass to move each drum. oh well. i never used that other function either, the next seq. or what ever it is. that ish is nice too. these will be useful when actually recording the track to daw.

i still cant believe that i didnt see that button. i have been looking for it for a couple weeks. i thought it was a shift + something or available in the grid edit. i thought it was jj os exclusive or something. lol.

thanks again for the direction

ooof, its ace, if u put together a few seqs, then hit 'next seq' button, the 'window' button should light up, press it to get more options,if u set the next seq to 'play immediately'. then when u r in the main screen and u scroll through sequences as normal - say as if to go from one to the next - instead of waiting for the seq to end before the next one starts, the next one mixes in straight away - but from where the prev seq was - keeping in time. now thats lush imho. so with a lot of similar seq's the mix can be all switching really fast etc..even as fast as the clicks on the datawheel.

theres also 'start immediately' which behaves differently as the next seq kiks in at its start. so with a lot of similar seq's this sounds like a sequencer/machine gun.
