PROS&CONS

I dont think there going to be much ironing out to do as far as JJ'OS is concern. looking back at prior versions it dont seems like there was much bugs associated with them. unlike the 60 or more with AKAI'S
OS.
I would like more PPQ and polyphony.

PEACE.

more effects!!!(for assigning at once)

I could be wrong but I think the think like the effects & the polyphony are probably built into the hardware and therefore cannot but altered/added by upgrading the os (more PPQ is probably possible though).

For me I only recently tried the JJ OS for the first time (5.0.1) and was totally blown away by the new features and brought it straight away. However, once I started trying to make some serious beats and getting involved with it it threw one too many "System Errors!!!" at me and I resorted to reinstalling the Akai OS because I wanted to make some beats rather than messing about working out how to avoid getting errors.

I will be reinstalling JJ OS soon when I have more time to play with it and get to know it properly but what I'm getting at is that there are so many great features in JJ OS and I'd like to see the work a bit more reliably, sure if JJ wants to add more features then great but I still see room for more stability with what is already there (the one thing I'll say about the Akai one is it seems to be rock solid and reliable even if some of the features are a bit limited/quirky).

Hmmm seems strange no one else has had problems like that with the paid version.
We saw those errors with one of the free versions, but 5.xx has turned out to be a pretty stable O.S.

Hmm, I definately had errors, on a couple of occasions it threw up a message with "System Error!!!" on the screen and pretty much everything stopped working and required a reboot.

The bugs/problems/annoyances I had with JJ 5.0.1 were:

1) Big System Error messages which I'm not sure what the cause was.

2) In the grid edit the Edit option sometimes didn't appear with the cursor was highlighting events. At first I didn't overdub had to be one but event after it was it still wouldn't always come one.

3) Sometimes it wouldn't let me switch loop on/off on a sample in the trim screen and then when it did instead of display "on" or "off" it kind of displayed a mashup of the 2.

4) When in Grid Edit (drum mode) if you show 6 pads, if you hit the 7th pad then the bottom line changes to pad 7 but line 1-5 stay as lines 1-5, I'd prefer the whole thing to scroll so you'd now see pads 2-7 instead of 1-5 & 7. This may not be a bug but it is something which I think would be better.

All in all I love the JJ OS, it makes a mockery of the Akai in terms of getting the most power available from the hardware. However, I was used to the Akai one and wanted to make a beat and when it started messing me around I didn't have time to try and work it out. I will be trying it again soon though.

The JJ OS makes a mockery out of Akai in terms of getting the most power out of a drum machine....but it had/has several bugs which prevented you from working? ???

New effect algorithms should be possible. The number of simultanious effects is probably limited to the dsp power.

it it threw one too many "System Errors!!!"

Wow, that sucks. I've never had a single crash with my 2500 ever since I got it. I've made my 2000xl crash a few times but the 2500 has been rock solid.

Maybe you could give specific examples to the JJ team because they seem to churn out bug fixes at breakneck speed.

When I have the time I will reinstall the lastest JJ OS and give it another go, then if there are any issues I will post them to JJ.

I'm more than happy that JJ fixed the biggest bug in the original OS: Mono Chop Shop! I still can't understand why Akai didn't manage to make this function work until now.

After installing 5.00 and seeing how much JJ improved the workflow of cutting up samples (retriggering the sample while moving the start/end point etc.) I was hooked. Paid, left the MPC on for a couple of hours and even got the password in time to save the session. Big up JJ!

It would be great if u could resample (convert) the 16bits to 12bit, 8bit, 6bit and 4bit! and maybe even change the Hz from 44.1Hz to 22Hz and 11Hz
This could be put in the EDIT page!

this means that we have to investigate what the chip is and who made it and replacing it with a more powerful one.

am i right in thinking that the white slot next to the ram is the same for connecting the EB16 to the 2000xl? i was gonna buy an EB16 but JJ told me that it doesnt work with the 2500
