What would u critique about ur stuff?

If i had to critique my music i would say that my drum patterns which at some points are outstanding are starting to sound a little redundant..How do I shake this up..Im intrested in Step editing being that i never use it.

What would u critique urself about..maybe someone else can help as well...

use step edit...its your best friend...

when i make my drum beats,i ONLY use step edit......

I feel like I just stumble upon a gold mine.. Can u tell me the privellages and some pointers as you know the the manual sucks.

you know that before i bought a MPC,i play and study drums for many years,and maybe that's why it's easier for me to make drum patterns..it doesn't mean that i do GOOD patterns always,ok? The fact is that when i want to make a beat first i choose the sounds that seem good to me for the song.....i don't load a big kit to begin...often only Bass drum,1 or 2 snares,and some hats(closed,open,medium open...),then i go to the step edit mode and began to program my beat,very often BD and SD come first...then i add the hats.....i do that on 2 or 4 bars maximum,then i copy if i need it....only after that,i add other sounds on my basic kit:cymbals,toms,tambourin,and all i think i need..........to be continued.....

i never use only one technique....but its obvious that if your beats are lacking and you know your not using the whole system you need to start learning how to....

i dont have any trouble with the drums at all. the drums are definitely the key foundation for any track. u could almost drop anything over bangin @ss drums and it ride. the concern i have though is when i try to use my step edit i dont see anything to adjust. any ideas? maybe i'm doing something wrong

i've NEVER understood the step edit on the 2000. it looks flowers difficult and is nothing like any step shit i worked wit. so u can find me bangin them pads on a daily basis. but i think i sweat the piano too much. i come up with lots and lots of ideas. but sometimes i feel i need to stop using the shit all together...oh well....

I HAVENT REALLY GOTTEN THE HANG TO USE THE STEP EDIT OR THE SWING FUNCTION YET BUT I SHOULD USE IT MORE, IM GOOD AT JUST PROGRAMMING THE DRUMS BY MYSELF, I GET BETTER & BETTER THE MORE I PRACTICE.

in step edit you have to hold down (if i remember rightly) goto and then use the shuttle buttons to find your events....if you dont hold 'goto' the shuttle buttons will just take you through each tick whether there is an event there or not.....

Hit step edit, the next button will bring you to the next step that is set on the quantize, if its set to eighth you will be at .24, if its set to off, it will have you scroll thru every note. Dub was right you have to hit the GO TO and then your fucntion to get the the next note or previous note. Step edit is the isht for editing drum. This is where I program in accents and some dynamics. I usually set up the mpc for the velocity to contol pitch and filter in the program screen and then put the finishing touches on it in step. Its great for moving indivual hits around as well to simulate a real drummer.

Swing function shifts the second tick as may clicks as you specify. If your quantise is eighth at 54% swing your second, fourth, sixth, and 8th hit will be move back 4 clicks on the sequencer.

is the 2000xl step edit exactly the same as the 2000 step?

It sould be. I think the swing function is a little different though. On the XL you can change the swing after the sequence is done, but on the classic I think you have to set it prior to sequencing.
