Reviews and questions about the entry-level MPC500

i saw a video on youtube with a guy showing his mpc2500 doing direct record and this ish looks hot.
now, i dont know if the mpc500 has that. i asked a producer but they didnt know. i didnt see anything in the manual about it. SOOOoo.... i experimented and noticed something- i recorded midi notes from my roland keyboard to play along with my mpc drum patterns (using the mpc as the midi sequencer for the roland keyboard). *wen i was in record audio mode, i had the midi set up with the keyboard on and already recorded midi track. so i wanted to record the audio from the keyboard according to the midi sequence, therefore i wouldnt hav to turn on my keyboard next time i play the song since it would be already recorded audio in the mpc500. so as i was saying, in "record mode", i hit "playstart" n the midi track also plays, recording it as an audio track. and then, vwalaa! my midi from the keyboard is now recorded into audio on my mpc.... so i dont need the keyboard anymore for that track!

wouldnt that be like direct record? i asked another producer about this and he didnt know the mpc could do that.

Yes, the MPC500 sequencer can playback a sequence while the MPC500 is in sample record mode, to allow this to happen.

You can also record the MPC500 sampler sound output directly within the MPC500, while the sequencer is playing, to enable the same sort of thing for recording the MPC500 sound output internally (as opposed to the external MIDI keyboard sound that you want to record).

The only issue is that you then have to trim the newly recorded sample start and end points, which might not be obvious if there is no clearly defined sound at the start of the sequence.

From reading the Direct Recording section in the MPC2500 manual, it seems that this is pretty much the same function that is available on the MPC500.

yeah i already used the resample part with doing the rec from in option. ....i like that it can do that... a lot. i tried resampling a sound that i was using with its effects also n for some reason it didnt come out sounding the same... lower and the effect was less also. but i guess thats another topic

OMG THIS IS FVKING SWEET

seriously that is one of my only real beefs with the 200XL is that i can't play the sequence while sampling. so often i wanna play a little synth part or something over a sequence, but i can only do so with an external sequencer. this makes the 500 HUGE

I find myself tappin' stuff out on the 500 more than the 2kxl these days. It is a lovely lil beast, not perfect yet still lovely.I'm SamOwen, and I approve this message.
