sequences can be easily edited (with a grid mode like a DAW) on the MPC's screen. I'd say it's the main advantage of the MPC 4000 against the other MPCs. I mean, the screen is bright white and black, making it easy to read even for someone used to working on DAWs. Not like the displays of all the other MPCs that look like Texas Instrument oldschool calculators'.

click on taht link to see the 4000's screens, I think you will be sold when you see them: http://www.akai-pro.jp/pgs/right/produc ... _scrn.html

Thank you this was very helpful.

Haze - I'm not looking for simplicity honestly - I'm looking for what would work best with my Computer. I am used to making beats with Acid and Reason, thats how I work. I used to have a mpc 2000 but i rarely used it cuz i just hated transfering between the zips and the PC.

So i like that it has a ton of options and that it works well with the PC.. jus looking for some friendly descriptions and explinations thats all

When you mention Acid and its timestretching you will have more in common with the 2500 to be honest. Both the 1k and 2500 have usb ports to transfer files back and forth to the PC. Unless you are willing to prepare to conquer the 4k the 2500 may be the lesser evil on the real.

just found this quote over at futureproducers.com

The "AkSys" program that links your computer to your MPC via USB is incredible. This program comes with the 4000 and it opens your MPC's hard drive in a really cool but simple interface... on your computer. You can choose to edit samples with a Sample Editor, create Programs, organize Keygroups and set effects parameters. It's not like the 1000 or the 2500 where your hard drive shows up like a digital camera or smart media card on your desktop... this is immediate interaction with your MPC on your computer.

Thats all i was really looking for, thanks for the insults though guys I can always use those too!

Now - where can I buy one used?

Can you explain how I would have more in common with the 2500 please? Does the MPC 4000 not timestretch? I have no problems conquering anything bro. Thanks

That "futureproducers.com" quote is a load of balls.

Ak.Sys doesn't include a sample editor.
And it can't be used to edit the MPC4000's effects.

Also the link is only USB 1.1 so it's damn slow if you wanna transfer a lot of files.

Now who is having trouble reading?dip shit.. he said You can choose to edit samples with a Sample Editor,.. which you CAN DO according to the manual.... he never said it came with a sample editor.. the sample editor is on your PC... the ak.sys lets you USE it with the MPC.

2500 and Acid is basically the same in the autochopping of the sample or loop and on the 2500 the loop can be assign to a pad and automatically adjust to the tempo of the sequence like in acid.

The 4k is manually like the 2kxl which you chop by regions. Yes the 4k has the traditional timestretching in sample edit but you have to do it yourself. _Check the mpcs comparsion chart to get more info. Research on the functions as the manuals are the best sources.

lol where do you think we got the info as most don`t have a 2500.

the whole point of posting in a forum like this is to NOT HAVE TO read a huge manual that is more like derections that humans explaining things to you.... So for yall to answer my Q and then be like "refer to the manual please, you dumbass" is like.. come on bro... Just help out if you can or dont if you dont want to

You have just open a can of worms and i can`t save you. Wordz of wisdoms a forum is to exchange ideas not for others to read the manuals for you as you can do that yourself. No hate.

Like I said before neither of us has a 2500. I just read the pdf for the 2500 when it came out to learn it besides hands on.

Good luck.

By elitethatsme Wed Feb 07, 2007 4:55 pm
WOW

I'm not asking nobody to read manuals for me........ I'm asking for advice from people who are experienced ACTUALLY USING the machines....

Which is a better way to learn something? Reading the manual or having someone who knows how to use it help you?

It's like if someone came to me like "elite can you help me learn to make beats".... if im going to be an arrogant prick i would say "Go read some MPC manuals" they are going to be like  ... OR I could actually help that person learn with my knowlage.. OR i could just tell them that I dont have time....... So you could not be a prick and tell me to RTFM and either a) Help me or b) tell me you dont have time.. aka.. dont respond

Wow not one person you asked has a 25k!!! I don`t have the 60 but I understand it, I don`t have the 500 but I understand it, I don`t even have the MV8800 but I understand it by reading.

Think for a second about why reading is important. No need to catch feelings unless you hate to read and on that note. Like I said 2500 is more than likely the better choice for you as it is simple to understand. It took me awhile to understand the 4k by practice, reading, practice, reading, trying and reading again various sources.

Its up to you and your attitude I wouldn`t buy somethng I didn`t understand and I couldn`t read it as the Aksys like feline says it the easiest and most user friendly of all the 4k materials.

My two cents. The 4k may be too much for ya. So prove me wrong by learning it inside and out so we can ask you questions in the future.

No hate just truth. Its your attitude. We will not read anything more for you which you can do yourself. 8)
