mpc's compressor or software?

just wondering what is prefered, how does the MPC's compressor compare to software such as T-Racks and Sound Forge? I am currently exporting my tracks to my computer then compressing with T Racks.....skipping any on board effects or mastering with the mpc...good idea or not? thanks guys!

compression does not equal mastering. it only is compression. there is a humongous difference. im not trying to be a snob! that's how it is

with that said, it completely depends on the compressor in question. the compressors in the waves bundles or the UAD card are gonna kill the mpc's compressor. but who knows, there's probably a situation here and there where the mpc's comp is good too!

personally, i almost never use the master fx in the mpc. i use either plugins like waves, PSP, UAD or just console eq. or i use my one nice outboard compressor (drawmer 1969).

for eq, usually i'll start with the mpc filters right on the sample. i try to get it the way i want right from the start.

get to know the compressor on the MPC just so you know how to use it for individual sounds and such.

T racks is a mastering program, which is great for polishing your final mix.

You would have to resample your entire song to master it with the mpc in this way, not sure which is better, compare the sound of each and see what you prefer.

Me, I'd use TRacks for the final and the mpc effects for drums and such.

I apply my compression in layers, so I use both the MPC compressor and Waves plug-in. I usualy lightly compress the drums on the MPC and then do the rest with Waves.
