USB MIDI?

Hi all, I am new to this forum. I was wondering is it possible to implement an USB MIDI device on the USB port. Since there is not a lot of MIDI out on the 1k, using the USB port can send MIDI message to the computer's soft synths, rather than taking up a MIDI out port to connect to the computer. Then the 2 MIDI out can be used to connect to hardware synths/devices. Is this even possible if someone suggest it to JJ, or am I just having one of those crazy idea?

as of now (and i think forever) usb is strictly data transfer

Even if it could do more than data transfer, it would also need host capability to control an external device. MPC USB is slave-only.

USB midi sux anyway. I would be nice to have an MPC-type product with a real-time sample accurate data connection to host external audio/midi breakout boxes of some sort and expand the I/O but we don't have that...

side note / neat tip.. the usb plug on your mpc is powered and will power a usb midi controller fine

I just realized I misinterpreted the original post. Oh well. Still wouldn't work..
