new 2 MPC 1000-Need some directions

I just got a used MPC 1000 and was reading through the different forums and was completely lost in where to start.

What is the 1st thing I need to do to get this up and running? I know I need to get the latest operating system..where can I get it?..is there a manual?..and what is it used 4??
