$700 on MPC1000 or 2000XL???

you know what? do yourself a favour and get both! and enjoy the pros and cons of both of these great machines!

I have the 1000 (blue). The pads suck basically. You have to be really gentle. I'm buying a new MPC, but a different model. I found a 2000xl studio plus for 900 with a 2 year insurance plan. I also found a 2500 at the same store for 1499. I'm kinda torn between the two. But I'll make up my mind when I see the quality of the 2000xl. If it seems kinda beat up, Im buying the 2500. BIG PADS RULE!!!

If your pads **** up its your fault you aint supposed to hit em like youre a hillbilly hittin his wife, if they **** up after normal use just buy new ones or something. Isnt it also possible to just make your own pads (i dont recommend it but if u know how then its coo') , and im pretty sure you can order pads like this from someone that supplies pads for Akai. They probably make many types of that stuff. There must be some pads that will fit the Akai MPC1000 that arent made for it but are smooth. My friend has an old MPC2000 and the pads on it actually suck, they are so hard and stuck you gotta hit them harder than a ****.

sorry, this is not true. open your mpc 1000 and take a look at the pads, and then open any other mpc and look at the pads. understand how both works and then tell us again that it's the users' fault that the mpc1000 pads break.

its the users fault, it aint that big of deal either way. my mpc was an abused floor model until i scooped it up and the pads still work top notch. you must hit them too hard or some shit because im 100% happy with mine.

actually your wrong. My mpc was very well taken care of. After a year of heavy use, some of the pads really dont work well any more. Its the construction of the pad that sucks. You should be able to bang on the pads more than you can with the 1000. Dont get the 1000 because of the pads... otherwise, the features are excellent. My next mpc is the 2500. the load times on these two are incredible!

believe me. you're wrong.
research the difference between interlink FSRs and the mpc1000's variable resistive pressure sensor construction before defending the "user error" position. you'll learn that you're mistaken.

i just dont understand how it can be so split like that, mine has been abused for 2 years at guitar center and it works fine. That seems like good construction in the pads to me?
i guess the only angle i can see and understand is that few a 1000's are just plain defective.
