Recording MIDI

Please help! I have the 2000xl and am trying to multi-track record using MIDI. How do I record using different sounds? I'm able to record a track with my keyboard using MIDI. But when I attempt to record another track using MIDI my 1st track recording takes on the new patch sound that I'm using for my 2nd track.

Learn about changing midi programs (hint). Sounds like you have an uphill battle ahead of you. You'll be fine. In step edit you can insert program changes.

Multi Timbre Mode is what you need.

The manufacture of the keyboard will tell you how
to set it up in the manual.

What keyboard you using?

On the Motif you get to Multi Timbre Mode by
using Pattern or Song & Mixing

The key is you got to assign each Patch (voice) to its own midi channel.
That's the concept of Multi Timbre Mode

Make your Xp-50 the slave of the mpc......I found that it is easier this way.......I use the xp-80

I'm using the XP as the slave. Here's the problem I'm having now - I do the 'Program Change' I select 'yes' , change the 'Pgm' to the sound I want, select the MIDI channel. When I do this again in order to record a new track, I'm still getting the previous recorded track sound.

Also, do you record in Patch Mode or Performance Mode?

I use performance mode but here is what I think is the problem.......above you spoke of selecting the program change on the xp........once I set it to operate in performance mode I select the instruments using the mpc and also I select the midi track via the mpc.........try this and let me know how you make out

this is how i did wit my 2k i would u se the roland sequencer as a type of patch bay if i was on track 1 on the mpc the midi would be 1a and the roland would recieve on track one(2a=track two) and so one...set my choice of voice on each track ... the key to this is not to use prg change and manually change voices on the roland...if i needed to have a switch in sound i just did that on a seperate track on the roland but useing the same track on the mpc i did it like this for the problems i was having with the prg change it was just a quick fix that i began to use regular

For those who are having the same problem, my issue was the setting on the Roland XP. Go to (on Roland) "system" and "MIDI". 'Program Change' needs to be off. Mine was set 'on'.
