Two dead pads on brand new MPC!!!

After being a MPC2000XL user for 5 years and the MPC died on me (pads died+screen died+rotary died after 300+ gigs which is ok for a 'studio machine') >>> I got a new MPC1000.

The MPC1000 pads worked for 2 hours. Now 2 are dead (they do trigger every 10th time they are pressed or so + trigger themselves randomly)

How **** great is this? Let's talk a little bit of quality control on a 1000€ machine. A cheapo plastic MPC1000 that works for a total of 2 hours.

A big **** you to Akai on this one! I have a paying customer and studio booked on monday (friday now) and I have a clicktrack+guides to-to.

I will never buy/trust an Akai product again.

yeah that's a major pain in the ass man

swap it out for another 1k if you can
buy an mpd 16 in the meantime if you can't
and check back in the forums in the next couple weeks for the 1k pad replacement kit if you're interested in that.

When you say buy an MPD16 are you saying you can use the pads from that on the 1000? Or are you saying he can get an mpd16 to trigger samples?

Well I am sure I will get a new one from thomann, gonna call them first thing on monday, but if I understand correctly, Akai has a whole batch of defect mpcs with bad pads out there in shops. They should DEFINATELY do a recall on them. So if they send me a new one, it's propably gonna have the same crappy pads too...

barslut - the mpd to trigger samples. the pad format is different on the mpd/other mpcs than on the mpc1000. i tried to mod the mpd to the mpc1000, but i saw very quickly that it just wasn't happenin.

Damn that is what I was hoping...It would be expensive pads just to destroy the MPD to have the pads for the 1000 but you gotta do what you gotta do I guess...But that idea is gone now since you say they def wont work.

mpd16s are pretty cheap right now. but it's not worth it IMO unless during live show/emergency to use the mpd with an mpc.

mpd16s will be cheaper than my pad solution, these days. they've really dropped in price.

last i saw them, they were $99. did the price drop even further?

nah but for interlink sensors 99 is pretty cheap though
unfortunately while the mpd has interlink sensors, the pads themselves are unfortunately bad. they are made of too hard a rubber.

i already read your post about makin a pad solution and am pretty impressed and so i started wondering what kind of fcuking genius you must be really man big propz and cheers for doing what you do ! i'm an IT-Student and got alot of Computer knowledge but i gotta tip my hat to you for makin "own" pads , if i imagine i would make my own keyboard for a pc ...

I don't think so. It's 2007 man, and xl from 1997. I had a fair share of the 2kxl breaking down on me too.

I don't know what to get... everything is made of plastic and recycled bean cans nowdays..
