im having a problem changing the pgm, on a classic 2000. with out what ever i did the first track, changing to the sound of the second program.
ive read a few post before it and when i get to my mpc nothing works. they say change s:drum. i dont see a s drum. i think a lot of people are having the same problem so can u explain in detail, which buttons which screen ect..... for instance i have all my kicks on one pgm. so i lay the kicks on track one. i have all my snares on a different pgm so when switch programs the kicks turn to snares ect.

then i need to know how to run 2 different sounds out the same time out of a midi keyboard. i under stand how to hook it up, and how it is played(midi only transfering data and all). but for instance track one playing a bass line(out the keyboard speakers, and track 2 play a differnt trumpet line simultamiesly[however u spell it])

also if somebody can explain midi sample dump to an idiot it would be appreicated.

also, from my friends comp, i cant log on for what ever reason so if u can keep this post in this forum it would be cool. sorry for the long winded post and asking questions that have been answered all ready

to play more than one instrument at a time you need to:
1. highlight drum1
2. turn your data knob to midi
3. select your midi channel (select 1a)
4. move your cursor to program number
5. turn the data knob and select the number you wanna use
6. record your performance
7. after you record part 1 highlight track 1 and turn your data knob to track 2
8. repeat steps 1 thru 7 until you are finished

I hope this helps you with multitimbral functions with your keyboard and you mpc.......btw, what kind of Keyboard are you using?

As Far as sample dump:

Program change questions have been coming up alot.
I'm also trying to use multiple patches to make a track on my mpc,I'm definatley forgettin something.

Anyway I have my drums on S:

Where it says Pgm: I set it to 1 for the first patch on the keyboard and record and two when I record the second.
When you open the program window I have it set to yes on the transmit changes screen.

the midi device to 1a/my keyboard to channel one, device 2a to channel 2
on the keys for the 2nd.
When you open the midi input window its set to recieve all channels, program ch is on.I don't have a sustain pedal so I don't mess with this.My midi filter is off.

My midi output window, I don't know how that should be?
Soft thru?

The oddest thing is, when I change patches on the keyboard it actually changes sequence numbers on the akai!

If anyone can spot my problem in here, I'd appreciate any help I can get.
I'm just trying to see if it's something I'm missing on my mpc2kxl or something wrong with my keyboard settings. My keyboard in this case os a microKorg.

Thanks!

go to the midi page and in the section that is for the sampler turn receive prog change off.

one is for the internal sampler, one is for the sequencer messages.

Well I thought I had it working so it'd play multiple keyboard patches in a single sequence, but upon a more careful listen, its still the same sound.

I'm getting freaked because I'm wondering if maybe my keyboard isn't multi-timberal! It's a microkorg and I've read the book on it and the akai manual all night now. It says the keyboard has two timbers, so I think it's probley not really multi-timberal.Is there anything I can do to get these sounds on my mpc while I get angry at myself and save up for something multi-timberal,if needed.

Thanks so much, I'm so bummed out right now...I just don't know alot about keyboards.

You may need to put the korg in a special mode to do it.

if you have different prgms
make 1 prgm with sounds you want from the other prgms
you can easily change the sound in each pad to any sound you have loaded no matter what prgm its in.

as for midi channels do what phatz said,

change the drum to Midi and then

change the # next to it 1 thru 16 A or B

then move over to the right where you see pgm or prg or what ever

them damn letters are and change it it should say off b4 you mess with it.

this will control your keyboard, I dont do it that way most of the time tho because if you have alot of different seq's it will keep changing the keyboard back to whatever program #'s you have on in that perticular seq. If you are not keeping track of the sounds u use u may loss 1 here and there, if you are good with what ever keyboard u have u should do all your changes in there.

if this didn't help pm me if I'm sitting in front of my equip I could tell you better.

and oh yeah when changing program # in midi to cycle thru sounds from keyboard the program # on mp will always be 1 # higher than the # of the sound in keyboard, dont know why just is
