If you have a computer that you can use for simple WAV editing and recording, get the 1000. It's cheaper, does everything you might actually need an MPC to do and uses CF cards for data storage (big improvement over zip). If you don't have a computer or the computer you have won't handle audio then get the 2000xl.
Don't bother with a direct drive turntable unless you plan to use it for scratching or want to pair it with a second for DJing. If all you need to do is play records for sampling, belt driven is all you need. Just make sure you put on a half-way decent cart. Remember also that you can sample from CD just as easily (easier if you are using a computer and an MPC-1000).
If you are going to shell out for a mixer, pay the extra bucks and get a studio mixer rather than a DJ mixer.
....
The problem with gear recommendations from online forums is that everyone just lists their own dream studio without a thought for the cost. (This isn't intended to disparage binger0, by the way, who made a lot of good recommendations and provided useful information and links).

mpc2kxl cost to much, ive been searching fro them. even on ebay. I'm probably going to get mpc1000 djmixer and turntable . im not gonna try to go to fancy anyway getting an mpc 2kxl, for the very first time. I think i should learn on the 1k and move up in a few years. but as one person said that if u have a pc that can do simple wav editing and recording, then get the 1k, but i dont have a computer that can do tht. is that really neccesary?

They're both pretty chunky - I prefer the 1000 my studio partner perfers the 2000xl - we agree to disagree but in reality your not disagreeing on anything - an MPC is an MPC - super tight timing, extremely easy to use and they're legends in the making - hook it up
The differences are small but until you've had a 2000xl you wouldn't know what your possibly missing if you went straight to the 1000 - you'd be sitting there going, damn I wish I could reverse this sample (Well shit the 2000xl does that, I should have got that) - that kind of thing, but it's not that serious

Actually, dude! If you don't have a computer or one that is powerful enough for a wave editing program I would suggest getting a 2xl. I find I have to do a lot of timestretching, pitch changes etc.
If your just learning I would actually suggest the 2xl, because when your learning, just putting down a decent simple drum pattern could be trying, let alone mucking around with stuff on a computer and importing and exporting back and forth, and then finding out the stuff you did with the sample(s) wasn't good enough or just didn't quite work, then you gotta export back and forth again. It's a real pain!
And trust me, if you don't have a PC you are going to miss those extra convenient feat. that the 2xl has. It also has a BPM match which would be so handy for me right now!
I have the 1000, and to tell you the truth the fact that it doesn't have these feat. is my biggest beef with it. If you don't have a PC it really limits what you can do with it. Sometimes sounds just don't fit together without these feat. and you don't want to limit yourself like that!

Hell yeah I sold my car to buy my 2kxl. Yo you can rock the 1000 hard. It is a little limited, but you can compose whole beats on it. I would get it if money was an issue. No doubt. Just as long as I can sample, edit, filter, sequence, its all gravy. Storage and some handy ish like time str. not being there can be a little wack but it aint no thing.
