I want to start tracking my beats, but i need some help with it.
At the moment i'm using the JJ os, but i will downgrade because of how wack the overdub function is. this leaves me only with Midi clock as sync-option. but that sucks aswell because very, very few DAW's can be slaved to midiclock. and i'm afraid that my groove will be **** with if i slave the mpc to the DAW.

that's why i'm reaching out for help.
can anyone share how they track they're beats?
it would be nice if you'd mention what DAW you're using and some settings in it.

thanks

please don't post unless you want to help me with my problems.
it just keeps this thread cleaner, easier and more informative for other rookies to use when they have a similar question like me.

dude sounds like you are pressed! i use protools as the master and my mpc1k as the slave. the way it sounds on the mpc is the way it will sound in protools, you donot lose your groove. i track 1by1 cause i usually work with 4bar loops no more than 8 tracks, i do it this way cause i dont trust one pass recording. im not using jj os, hope this helps

overdub isn't really any different between the os's, so i'm not sure what this is all about.

i use acid pro 6.0 as DAW, and i'm not sure why you're so concerned with sync - you don't have to use sync at all to record each track out separately and mix them down in a daw's sequencer.

i think he doesnt want to have to align anything, correct me if im wrong

i didn't see him mention that, but if he did and i'm snoozing, he should reconsider

alignment is really easy if you insert 1 bar at the beginning of your track and have it start with a click (or hat, whatever)

this way you just trim every wave's start point to the click in sound forge/audacity.

no need to line up then cuz it's all lined up already, you just click and drag.

I use Pro Tools in the same way as J Wales - easy peasy - But the insertion of a hat or whatever to the start of a blank seq to aid alignment like Ant has mentioned is also a very easy way of doing it.

I'm intruiged to know what your gripe is with the overdub on the JJ os - I've noticed absolutley no difference at all................

no problems with overdubs (jj os) here or with sync (protools master mpc slave)

The more I work with MIDI, the more I lean towards just lining up things 'by hand' similar to what nym said.

The fact is on most systems, MIDI sync is just not that tight- you can do a better job manually.

OTOH, often I'll sync things up 'close enough' with MIDI clock when I'm working on the track, then fix up the timing as a last step. Also at that point you can mess with 'nudging' tracks a little fwd/back to change the groove.

Seems to me the guy asked you a question because you didn't do a very good job of articulating your problem to begin with. Nobody else on this thread (including myself) seem to understand what you are taking about either.

If I made a post saying "Help me, my MPC is whack so gimme an Instasolution(tm) now and don't respond any other way" I don't see how I could expect any better.

Why would I do that? This is a technical ? about the 1k right?
It's not a noob question. So it should be here.
