a few Mpc 2000xl questions

I purchased a mpc 2000xl yesterday.. and I'm learning really fast. It's easier than i thought it would be to learn.. but theres a couple things I have questions about if someone would be so kind to answer.

For starters..
How do i make it so the sounds dont overlap eachother? like i want the sound on one pad to stop playing once i hit the next pad... so they dont clash and make a big mess.

2ndly..
How do u save the samples that you record into the machine?

3rd.
Is there a proper way to shut down the unit? I just press the button in the back, and i dont wanna make it crash or anything.

and last...
How do i change the swing? the swing is messing up my drum loops.. i want them to sound the way i play them.

i highly suggest reading the manual, you'll learn what you want and so much more. google the manual if you don't got it. saving sounds is in there ch 10

1) go to program, param, then switch poly to note off in the bottom right

OR

press open window and you can set the pad to mute another pad when you press it

4) you can set swing by going to tempo in main screen and press open window. or you can turn timing off and it'll record whatever you play

Man.. all i need to know is how to save a sequence.. i just lost my best work because i couldnt figure it out. I went Shift, save, Save a sequence, then it said "waiting" for split second then nothing.. so i turned it off and on.. and it was gone!
I am very very very very very very aggrivated at this point.


Can u please just tell me how to save a sequence to the machine? or do i need a disk?...

most 2000XLs do not have any internal memory, so you'll need to have a place to save your data. where are you saving your samples?

I noticed you said when you saved you used "save a sequence"
When I save I first save the "all" then I save the "all program and sounds" or rather .APS

another tip to saving which I find very helpful is putting them in there own folders. It just keeps the disk nice and organized to look at.

what kinda of drive(s) do you have? the MPC2000XL has an internal drive, which can be a floppy, zip, card reader, or other ATAPI 3.5" inch drive

or you can use an external SCSI drive.

The drive on mine is tan colored, and says ZIP100.

yep, so get you a couple zip 100 disks

although everyone ... EVERYONE, on the board recommends a card reader. costs around $50 and so simple to install. plus, you'll never have to work with zips again (or for a long time)
