Playing a Sample at different Pitches

If I want to play a particular sample, but at all different pitches, what is the best way to do it. At the moment I'm loading the sample into each pad and changing the pitch in the parameters. Seems long winded, or is this the only way?

16 levels tuning?

Yes, that sounds like it. So it plays a sample like playing keys on a piano. Also is there a preserve duration feature, or is that part of time stretching?
