yo - where / when / how are you employing sequencing when tracking out a beat track by track?

dont kno if yall follow my question - but basically im saying if u make a beat on the mpc and then want to transfer it to your stand alone hard disk recorder track by track - how does the sequencing of the mpc come into play? once each sound is tracked out individually will you have to just pretty much sequence it yourself by adjusting the faders to bring in and take out sounds as you see fit?

i think this question would apply to any model of the mpc which is why i posted it here.....its kinda just my theoretical question to help me establish some kind of 'creative order' for my own processes......

thanx for the help in advance

Sq 1 i name it HOOK (8 bars)
Sq 2 i name it VERSE1 (8 bars)
Sq 3 VERSE1-2 (8 bars)
then back to hook
Sq 4 VERSE2 then verse 2-2, and so on...

then when im done naming and organizing all the tracks on my sequences i organize the song out.
usually like this
Hook, Verse1, Verse1-2, Hook, Verse2, Verse2-2, Hook and or Bridge, Verse3, Verse3-2, Hook, ......and so on

Im not sure if this answeres your question, probably way off but every sequence aint the same. the tracks are, but the way they're played out dosnt have to be...... you take out whateva sounds you dont want to be in that particular sequence. organize it out exactly how you want the song to go, then send it to your recorder. thats how i do it...

so u sayin' u dont record individual sounds to a track - u record sequences to a track?

im sayin' not internally of course - externally to a hard disk recorder or software or whatever

u put each sequence on its own track?

i guess im not sure what your asking...but when i record to my tascam 488 after everything is finished on the mpc....

my mpc is connected to my mixer and so is my keyboard....then the main outs on my mixer are connected to the first two tracks on my tascam. so when i record the song im only using 2 tracks out of the 8 on my tascam.

when im about to record my song to the 8 track, i go into song mode (on the mpc) which has all your sequences organized into a song. so im not sure how to answer your question. i dont record each sequence seperately, no. but somebody else might be able to help you if i cant. im not totally sure what u mean :( sorry

im just getting a feel for how other people do it to give me ideas for when i get ready to record my stuff out......i mean the mpc will sequence the song exactly how u want and i was wondering with that being the case what would be the advantage of recording each sound track by track into my track machine then

im working pretty much strictly with all samples too if that makes a difference

but if the mpc is going to sequence then if i track everything out then its like i lose the sequencing and have to do it manually - i think - but i could be wrong which is why i pitched it up here

but thanks anyway man i still got something from your info........

Check it.
Track mute.
Aight put your instumensts on seperate tracks IN THE MPC. ex. Track one =hhat, Track two= Snare, Track 3=kick, track 4=bass. (it helps to press OPEN WINDOW on where it says Tr:01-Track-01 and rename it kick, snare, hhat, bass etc.) also, this is where you select what track you want to record on.
I use 1-hats, 2-Kick, 3-Snare, and etc.

This means when you hit record and playstart at the same time you are then recording (sequencing) in whatever track you selected. Make your beats like this. Saves time later.

Then you go into track mute, (one the MPC 2000xl is up by volume knob), Select which tracks you want on in the sequence. \
ex.
Say i have a beat with three sequences. I want to mute out the kick from the 1st seq. Goto track mute in seq 1 and turn off kick. When I play my song from song mode. The tracks that are muted will play there mute.

Okay now that you got that all you gotta do is mute at ALL tracks except for the one you are multitracking in your recorder.
Song will play with just that instrument.
Also if you lace your kicks and snares on the same track, you can seperate them by pressing ERASE, select the the track where you want the sample removed, then press the pad with the offending sample (ex. snare from track 2) Make sure it says the Pad # or note number in the bottom of the of the erase screen that you just picked. Erase the snares and rerecord them on a different track. That be it homes

ok man - i think i get it now

so you're basically not really just recording each sound for a full 5 minutes each and then going frantic with your sliders......ok man i got it

bing take a sec and answer my other question in the 2kxl forum......

its like u multitrack on the MPC first then just do in back into the recorder with track mute selecting whichs track will be played back. If your recorder has a MIDI out on it. Find out how to Sync it to the MPC where the Recorder is the Master. On the mpc it is east goto the midi screen (shift+9) and up at the top left select which midi ur usin (1or2), Then turn MODE: to MIDI CLOCK. then Recieve MMC: ON go back into main screen. and press play on the recorder, should press play on your MPC for you.
Perfect MULTI tracking.

No you are recording like three minutes of the sound (track)(whatever the duration of the song) Just one at a time. So for a kick, snare, hhat, you would actually be recording one track so like 12 minutes for one song with 3 tracks. You would just goto track mute and turn off all the tracks u dont want to hear (solo out the one sound you want to record), u have to do this for all seqs that you have. ex. a song with five sequences and tracks 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, u would have to go into ALL FIVE SEQS NOT TRACKS, and just leave trrack one on.

Might be SMPTE outs. Dont know dont use em. It will say MIDI IN or MIDI out on the recorder if it has that. Most do.
