hey forum,
i just got into the ability to change the build-in click-sound of my mpc while recording. i knew i could change this since jj implimented this feature, but i didn't changed the sound yet.
well, now i did because working with headphones and the build-in clicks destroy my ears. and i want to share my (simple!) clicks with you.

i set the velocity for the accent to 15 and the normal click to 30 or 40. sounds good to me!

and i put a preset .pgm in this zip-file too. it's just blank but all velocity is set to 70 as it was when i created a pgm with akais original os. i liked it so i made this preset. if you don't like it, just delete it.

ok, here is a problem or bug i stumbled upon, perhabs you guys can help me:

as far as i can see, i can only save 'all seq and samples' to the internal memory. i did, but it only shows the saved pgms afterwards, not the samples (.wavs). when i try to load these pgms from the internal memory, it loads with all the samples, so they must be there, but i can't see them.
this sucks because i want to use my click sounds from the internal memory, so i don't have to load them every time i start my mpc.

can anyone confirm this problem? you have to save a new pgm first, the old mpc-standard kits were listed with the samples...

do you have a hard drive? if so, auto load from there, or memory card. the internal memory has had some space used for the extra OS size due to 300,000 notes being implemented. i think it's just saving of sequences that's been stopped on the internal memory, but there could be other funny stuff going on there too, i stay clear of that, and just use the hard drive.

Thanks, Robot. I downloaded them when you first posted them... forgot to reply and thank you, since I was having some strange problems keeping those clisks set as default. I'm not sure why it worked for a minute, then stopped working. I was too sleepy to figure it out. But I'll take Modnar's suggestion for setting it up in the Autoload folder of my HD.

Yeah i just woke up... still a bit groggy.
Plus I fell asleep early the other night and didn't quite figure out if I was running into a bug or not. But I'll try it again later.

I gotta catch up with my Evolver and Axiom 49 before I get to that, since I just upgraded the Evolver to 3.0 last night (and fell asleep early again before i could assign MIDI CC's). So today should be alot of fun, as I got an early start and the entire day to set up and enjoy everything.

I've been meaning to upgrade the Evolver for a while now... but I've been completely sidetracked with life in general, let alone keeping up with the JJ OS (which I find is still fairly intuitive), and trying to make time to build the x0xb0x (which I REALLY REALLY want to build to perfection... hence waiting for the right time where I can focus mainly on that). So I got LOTS to catch up on, and I need a vacation for about a month in order to do that. Not enough hours in a day, days in a week, etc.... I'm overwhelmed with projects over here, yet I keep getting drawn back to these forums trying to keep up with the latest news on the JJ OS. AAAAAAHHHHHHH... INFORMATION OVERLOAD!!!

i feel like that at times, you're not alone. for the x0xb0x, i set aside a saturday evening and a sunday, and just flew at it. it's done, and has been for about 6 months, but i still need to tune the bugger, as my £300 Snap-On multimeter doesn't measure 0.001V which is weird, cos there's room on the screen, wallet emptying bastards.

the forums are a big draw, especially when you crave knowledge, but sometimes you have to go into stealth mode to get things done, or else you lose a year or two.

what did the evolver upgrade include, as i thought the layout was fairly set in stone given the printed front panel?

yeah, i'm trying to set aside weekends for the x0xb0x. i just need to buy a good folding table to set up in my living room, since i'm not about to risk such a lengthy project on the kitchen table. i also need to order some solding tips. i bought a weller wlc100, and the tip that came with it aint exactly suitable for this project. so a conical tip is needed for smaller components.

i'm always craving knowledge between this forum and the x0xb0x forum. i see alot of people making mistakes building the x0x (particularly due to carelessness). but i still read those posts anywy to be sure i know what not to do. forums are addicting... especially this one. so i'm trying to set time limits, so i don't kill too much free time. but the JJ OS has got me checking that site and this forum more than ever these days.

the evolver update includes a PIC chip, which is easy to replace, since it's socketed. they also gave me a cool little evolver sticker and a pre-printed shipping label (posage paid by dave) to send back the original PIC.

from the website, there's a zip file, containing the instructions, DSP update syx, and factory program syx files... also a key programs syx file.

the DSP update must be done first before opening the unit and replacing the PIC controller.

i find soldering with a tip like a cone with its end sliced off diagonally (hope you get me) fine, though i've not tried a cone tip, so i can't compare, but i can imagine it's quite hard to hold against a leg of a component. i dunno, let me know how you get on.

good to see theres more xoxbuilders around here.
i'm starting the assembly of mine somtimes next week.
might need to ask a few questions along the way to make that sucker
come togheter right.
