Just purchased the new JJ OS and it is GREAT, like a completely new machine now and so much more advanced than the Akai OS.
However, i have came across a problem that seem to be occuring quite often which is very much a serious problem. Upon pressing certain buttons/pads the MPC seems to inadvertadly restart :S. For example i was just trying to get onto the grid edit option, i pressed mode and pad 15 and the MPC restarted :|, luckily i had no work loaded that i hadnt saved. This continued to happen until i switched the MPC off and back on, then it was fine.
Anybody experience a similar problem?
Any suggestions on what i should do?
Thanks for the help guys.

Curious. Your only real option is to see if the problem continues (being careful to save your work often!) and if it does, submit a bug report to JJ.

quick question, are the restarts sudden like out of nowhere or do they seem to appear after a system hang?

By Glydez Sun Feb 11, 2007 3:52 pm
Definitely quick and sudden, there is no warning such as the system crashing it just goes blank for a second and then brings up the welcoming message of 'MPC 2500 New Os Version 5.03', why do you ask?
Appreciate the advice.

i dunno, i was curious. this is gonna sound pretty unprofessional hahha but i THINK i remember having a restart out of the blue one time that i think was os related

but frankly i was a little bit stoned, so it may have not happened.

i asked because my OS kind of hanged for a second, then restarted. this opposed to a power flicker or an accidental jiggle of the power cord - which would make more of a sudden turn off/on

have you recently moved your mpc to a new outlet? are you 100% sure that this is an os thing and not a power thing? maybe it's just power, since i dont often hear that people have these kind of restarts.

SDame troubles here with crestarts. happens quite a bit at times. very obtrusive, just a mess when it become persistent. it seems to occur randomly, but after restarting once or twice, it then continues only when i press -main-, thereafter.....other sessions have also been ended by the toatally random nature of the bug....never an issue with the first few OS 5 builds, however 5.03 is a different story for my machine...

Run your fingers across all your buttons and see if any feel a little sticky.
Also go to the screen that shows what note is triggered when you tap a pad and just play around for a while you can just use the same bank no need to change.
Check to see if any of the pads ever trigger the wrong note or multiple notes.
Because of the ampount of shift functions and pad functions both the 1k and 2500 are more prone and subceptible to these type of crashes or lock ups.
It can basically tell the unit to do multiple functions or an unregconized function.
Akai should have put a little more QC into the pads sensors and their alignment since they have the shift functions.

The problem doesnt seem to be happening now, none of my pads trigger the wrong notes and i havent recently moved it to a new power outlet. Has anyone reported the bug to JJ? I will email him now.
Thanks for the advice people, hopefully it will be sorted.
