WHAT A NIGHTMARE!!!

I have two folders on my Memory Card, PROJECTS and SYNTH. When i hook the MPC up to the computer via USB, nothing appears to be in the PROJECTS folder, but the SYNTH folder has everything in it. The when i check the capacity of the PROJECT folder it says it has nothing in it. When i check the capacity of the entire Card, it shows that there is barely any space left.

I have a 128mb card

Anyone know any free programs that i can recover my files through...I have a ton of beats that im going to loose if i don't.

Whats your problem? Everything is in your synth folder? Just copy everything to your PC.

How much space does the MPC say is left on the card? If the computer and MPC are reporting different amounts of free space you probably have some file corruption going on... most likely caused by the OS version you are using... I'm guessing you are using AKAI OS 2.1. That OS is known to cause corrut files when saving.

If you can't get your computer to "see" the files on your card, you are going to have to load up each project one by one, and re-save them to a different folder, then copy them all to the computer. I wouldn't run any file recovery software on the card quite yet. I tried that when I had a similar problem, and it made it worse.

Are you connecting to the computer through a USB cable? Or are you putting your card in the computer's card reader? You might want to try the second option if you haven't already.

You need to backup everything that you want to save as soon as possible, then install one of the JJ OS versions (3.06 is FREE, the newer ones cost $30). Then once you install the JJ OS, you are going to need to format your card with the new OS. That should fix your problem. AKAI still hasn't fixed the bug in their OS that causes the problem you are describing. It has also been called the "NEW FOLDER BUG", "THE DIRECRORY ERROR BUG", "THE SYSTEM ERROR BUG", and a few other names I think.

i tried everything....i guess this is the last straw for me on the AKAI OS, i just lost about 20 beats. this sucks

time to upgrade to JJ 3.06 at the very least. it's stable and its free.
just remember to format your discs after upgrading and you'll be straight.

I'm surprised that anybody who spends time on this group is still saving on drives formatted with 2.1 after all the hellish experience that's been dumped onto the forum on this topic.

You might still be able to use the Akai OS if for some reason you really prefer it -- just don't format your drives with it!

Well, since the JJ does not seem to have a critical drive formatting error that renders any saved work on the machine useless, I would have to say no!
