Friend of mine recently switched from the 1k to the 2000XL, and now he's trying to sell the XL to either buy the 1k again or preferably the 2500.

The main reason is the lack of effects, transportablility (if that word exists) and the fact that you cannot create a mono program (so that each pad stops the previous pad).

The lack of effects really makes a difference, unless you like to load your samples first into a computer and add effects to them there or use some other method. Or buy the effects board.

The XL is also slightly slower + the filter and general operation needs getting used to when switching from the 1k . On the other hand it is more sturdy and just looks so much better than the 1k. :)

I've got the black on and I think with all the green lights and sparkly black paint it reminds me more of some lego construction, still a great machine though.

The classic grey/beige 2000XL is the best, some stuff is so ugly it's beautiful...

i was gonna take the 1000 back to GC and get a 2000xl, but after messing around with it at the store i didnt really like it, the processor was slower than the 1000

and i didnt like the fact that the pads are on the right side of the functions, i guess that would be ok if you was left handed, or people who it dont really matter

i just didnt like the way it was layed out, so i kept my 1000 and i never had a problem with it so far i just love it

the 1000 is a workhorse but compared to a big fat grey vintage 2000(xl) it looks like a child. if i ever get a really good deal on a 2000 i'm gonna buy it just for it's looks and maybe take it with me on stage and pretend i'm using it while the 1000 secretly runs :D if you wanna make beats anything goes, in your case i'd definitely keep the 1000
