Whattup heads. ANyone familiar with both the 1000 and the 2000xl? What major differences are there between the 2 machinces functionality-wise?

My questions:
Does the 1000's q-link slider work like the 2000xl's note variation slider when trimming samples? (holding shift and using the slider to adjust the selected region size)

What are the advantages of the USB connections vs. having a SCSI if any?

Does anyone like the 1000 more than the 2000xl? If so, why?

q-link doesn't work in TRIM mode

USB isn't used for storage, only for connecting to the PC. So, you can't hang a USB drive on the MPC, but if you do lots of editing on the PC/MAC, you can xfer .WAV files back & forth with much more speed. and the Compact Flash cards are about as fast as SCSI hard drives are on the 2kxl.

Never personally owned a 2kxl. There's certainly things I'd like on the 1k that the 2kxl has (auto-chromatic shift, time stretch, beat slice, filter envelopes). And MTC support.

Good lookin Jk. I appreciate the input. It's too bad AKAI doesnt update the OS and redesign the 2000xl to make it MAC/PC compatible with a usb or firewire connection.

The 1k will talk to both PC and MAC. And, in terms of hardware, comes damn close to the 2kxl (2 effects + master, spdif I/O, 4 aux outs, 2 midi i/o). I really thought when the 1k came out, it was just that: a 2kxl in a little box, but with C-Flash & USB instead of SCSI. Oh well.

The 1000 can have up to 128 megs of internal memory and the flash card is like a floppy disk that can hold up to 2 gigs of samples! It comes with effects built-in too with compression also. It's like a laptop so you can carry it on an airplane to lay down beats while you fly. The adapter is seperate though, but you get it at Best Buy or any other electronic store. It has an USB on the back of it so you can drag and drop samples from your computer(PC or Mac). The USB is real tight and it still has that MPC swing at any value like the other models. For $840, you can't beat that price and I think it's worth it becasue it sounds good too.

Don't forget that the 1000 is small; so you get 2x2 midi instead 4x4 and 6 audio outs instead of 8. You don't need SCSI because of USB. If you want to time stretch, forget it; I don't see this feature. I use Acid Pro for time stretching audio loops; with a click of a mouse....bingo! Every audio track is sync at any tempo in Acid. Just save every audio track from Acid and via USB for your MPC.

I think $840 is worth it, so go for it. I don't see anything wrong with the 1000 at all: at least not yet. Just because it is small, don't think of it being a toy. It's still a MPC and it rocks. 8)

Yeah the 1000 is off the hook - I used to have a 2000xl and I prefer the 1000 - people are soon to forget that it used to take the 2000xl a long time to load programs, TIMESTRETCH, etc...it's much faster in my world to load a recycle file up into either Logic or Kontact and render it to my specifications, save to my CF and load it up into the 1000 - It's awesome, I'll spend days tweaking loops out in logic, save 'em all to a folder and then drop them into the 1000 - take the 1000 downstairs and sequence beats while eating dinner and watching the new season of the SOPRANO's - 2000xl, forget about that!

The 2000XL looks much more professional(the grey one). The 1000 is ugly and looks more like a groovebox toy.
It is missing some handy dedicated knobs like the numeric keys.
I like the display of the 2000 much more. You can see it better when you turn it up. The 2000 has a hold funktion for the noterepeat.
You can replace the diskdrive with a an flash card reader. In that way it's allmost as easy as the 1000 to transfer samples between pc and MPC.
The maximum of 32MB inrernal memory on the 2000 is enough. YOu can load so much into 32MB. And if you have not enough, just lower some samplerates.
The 2000 can transfer a sample automaticly over all the pads/midi keys.
So the all pads have the same sample with a differnt pitch. On the 1000 you have to set each pad by hand to a other pitch.
The 2000 can have 8 or 10??? outputs, while the 1000 has a maximum of 4.

But if you search the archives and/or look at the frontpage, there are most of the differences listed.

Do buy a second-hand MPC2000XL!!

For the sake of argument

That's a matter of opinion - I like blue and red more than grey - but I live in Washington state where it's grey all the time so...

Sander wrote:It is missing some handy dedicated knobs like the numeric keys.

The pads work fine for me - I used to use a xl and I can't say I miss the number things up in the corner

Sander wrote:I like the display of the 2000 much more. You can see it better when you turn it up.

The screen on the 1000 is like 10 million times bigger and the 1000 is small enough if you put a small wedge (like a book or notepad) underneather the back it tilts to your desire.

Sander wrote:The 2000 has a hold funktion for the noterepeat.

That's all the reason I need right there to buy a 2000xl - where would you be without the hold feature

after you buy a 2000xl used for $800-$900 how much more would this cost you - and where in the manual are the instructions on how to install a compact flash reader

I have issues with the 2000xl and 1000 only supporting 16bit 44.1 going the other way is like really going the other way like back to 1980

16 levels comes standard on the 1000

With the same logic the 1000 can have up to 7 outs (4 individual, 2 mono panned left and right and digital out)

I'm just given you a hard time because you seem kinda bitter about the 1000 - it just seems the 1000 is a step in the right direction especially in this day and age of zero latency DAW like Reason, Logic and Cubase basically running things.

Peace and good luck on your decision - 2000xl or 1000 you'll be happy either way it's a MPC!!!

By bigal_davis Wed Mar 24, 2004 10:05 pm
Do you remember when cell phones were the size of a brick? Now cell phones are tiny to fix in your pockets. The same thing applies to the MPC. We don't have to carry around those big machines anymore. The 1000 is funk nasty. So just pick one up for over $800 buck and stay cool. 8)

New technology is working folks.

For the former 2000XL users, do you feel the pads are in anyway downgraded on the 1000? Other than the smaller size, are there any downgrades as to how the mechanics of the pads are built. Just as sensitive and "real"?

By bigal_davis Thu Mar 25, 2004 2:48 am
The 1000 can layer 4 samples per each pad with after-touch too. Now that's tight.

Peace

I find it funny when people like Sander compare 2 products. I mean, compering advantages of 2000XL with disadvantages of the 1000. Man..if you wanna be fair... try to compare exlusive advantages of each of them. Otherwise, your opinion is worth as much as an opinion of a used car dealler when you're buying a car from him.

Example:
I like the display of the 2000 much more. You can see it better when you turn it up.
TRUE, this is a very nice feature of the 2000XL, that the 1000 is lacking.

The maximum of 32MB inrernal memory on the 2000 is enough. YOu can load so much into 32MB. And if you have not enough, just lower some samplerates.
Why don't you just admit that the 2000XL can kiss 1000's a$$ in this case, cuz the 1000 can have 128MB ??

Anyways, all of this just to say, that if you wanna give professional opinion...you have to change your aproach.

Peace to my man djadonis206 8)

I have them both. I bought the 1000 for taking with me on a tour where I needed small equipment wich I could take with me as hand laguage in a plane. I make my music with the MPC2K. And now just start using the MPC1000. It's just that I'm used to the 2000. I like it that's bigger. Ok maybe for on the road the 1000 is better, but when you have a hardcase for the 2000 and just put it in your car, size it's not such a big deal.

Most of the things I do with an MPC is midi data. So for me the 32MB is enough.

Ok mabye for a brand new mpc user, it would be advisable to buy an 1000. Although I sometimes see second-hand 2000's go for a verry low price.

People that allready have external effects, allready have a sampler and or don't need more then 32MB I would go for the 2000.

Maybe that in the future AKai could add some of the missing 2000 features on the 1000. I said before that I was missing the hold funktion. For me that'a really an important funktion. The less amounts of availabe notes on the 1000 is no big deal.

Now that someone said that you could use 6 outputs on the 1000 (I allready had thought about it, but remember some people were saying it was not true) is verry nice!
