s950 compatible with the mpc60 or the mpc2000

Does anyone know if the akai s950 is compatible with the mpc60 and the mpc2000? I have the mpc60 (upgraded) , but is the s950 compatible with either mpc?

The s950 is compatible with all sequencers. I currently use it with my MPC60. It's what is was made to do. PM me with any probs you have setting up.

Can you swap sounds from one to the other? My guess is no, but good to be sure.

The S950 can be used with any mpc, DJ Premier used to use the s950 with the mpc60, and the Beatnuts use the mpc2000 and s950 also.

Oh I see. Sounds can't be transferred from s950 to mpc60, or vice versa. Dj Premiere only used the mpc60 for it's sequencer and he used the s950 for his samples.

The S-950 samples and then you use the MPC2000xl or whatever to trigger the sounds?

No sampling is done on the MPC 2000 xl?

Also whats the sampling time on the 950?

You can actually sample on both, triggering and sequencing is done on the MPC. The old school cats probably sample on the s950 cause they're so used to it and know it like the back of their hands. The s950 has a memory upgrade, not sure how much time it gives it, look at some s950's on ebay or vintagesynth.com and see what info you can find.

If you're running a setup where you're controlling a s950 with an MPC2000, then you can sample on either of them. The whole point of adding the s950 is to get its sound characteristics in your mix (12 bit, lo-fi crunch, similar to the SP1200). If I was running that setup I would use the 2000 for all my sounds exept I would use the 950 for drums or maybe basslines, so they crunch.

The 60 and the s950 i'm told have the same sound, though. The only reason I could see using them in unison would be for more sampling time. Adding a 950 to a 60 would be a hell of a lot cheaper than a second 60.
