Another problem with static...

Had something weird happen last night.

...Turned the MPC on, loaded up the beat i’m playing with and I got some static in three of my samples. The static always played at the exact same place in the sample every time I triggered that sound. I thought it could be the ram, and I’ve already ordered some more, but another strange thing is that I got similar static on the metronome’s ‘tick’... and that doesn’t have anything to do with ram, unless I’m mistaken.

Also, before playing the sequences/samples I was in the sample screen and turned the source from analog to digital and got mad static exactly like the static I later found in my sounds. I don’t think I’ve ever done that before or I wouldn’t have tried it... Could that relate to the static in my samples/metronome in any way?

So anyone know what could’ve happened? I shut the MPC down, turned it back on and loaded up the same files and went through each sample and there wasn’t any static at all.... So does the ram get filled the same way each time you load?? ‘Cause if it does then it might not be the ram, if you know what I mean...?

One thing I didn’t do was max out the ram and test each sample. I’ll do that tonight along with a memory test to see what happens.


I know people have had this static shit occur before... I searched and found two cases... one was the ram, and the other seemed to be a problem one guy had with the motherboard in his brand new MCD. But I reckon my problem could’ve been something else. If anyone could shed some light on this, particularly considering the metronome thing I’d appreciate it.

i'm having the same problem on my 2kxl. i am wondering if you ever fixed it with new ram or if getting the 8 out expansion will help.

i think it was the ram. i took out the ram in there and tried playing around with just the 2mb on board and it played without any glitches. i even loaded the same set of samples multiple times (to fill up the 2mb of ram) and left it on for almost 2 hours. not a glitch.

phew! this is a good sign. i'm keeping my fingers crossed that it's not anything else. i should have my new ram in a week or so.

yea, make sure your ram is seated properly, it still happens from time to time in my experience, very rarely though, make sure you keep saving your work regularly as you are making a beat.
