Ok...Akai is most likely focused on something else at the moment (MPC 5K perhaps ??? ) since its been awhile since their last
official
OS release. JJ is busy doing what JJ does....fix bugs, add features, and then fix more bugs....

So with all this activity going on, I am curious to know what MPC 2500 users really want in their MPC.

If you can add one feature/enhancement to the MPCs 2500s OS, what would it be? (besides stability/bug fixes)

JJ OS makes it possible to do full productions on the MPC2500. I would say.....1st - The ability to store/Save all information to CDR and make audio CDs..2nd - More FX/EQ

the ability to copy a sample and apply destructive bit quantising - simulating 12 or 8 bit while still operating in 16 bit

this way it wouldn't take up an FX slot

wouldnt an option to resample in 8/12 bit mode be easier?

i would like a higher ppq resolution to keep me from buying another buggy MPC.

good question, i've wondered a lot about that.
i'm no coder, i honestly don't know which is harder to code into the system - a destructive bit quantiser or recognition of multiple sample rates.

maybe i'll ask - not as a feature request, just a question

I want this loading option:

If you select a folder with samples to load there should be an option to assign each samples to pads in a new program automatically. If folder contains more than 64 samples it will make two programs, if more than 128 samples there will be 3 programs and so on…

Would be great when we have so much memory now.

if 'record mix changes' idea was widened to allow ANY value to be tweaked and recorded into a seq......that would be my #1 request.

more : on the mixer 'window' page, where the 'record mix changes' option is, there could be a list of parameter types, organised into useful groups, with a o/x (on / off) switch next to each param in the list, so the user could decide whats going to be available to change while in rec/o'dub.
ie: fx params.

multiple sample rates is how samplers produce different pitches, bit depth is another thing altogether, and i would think that it is unchangeable due to the hardware. emulating it may be possible, though adding extra effects may be impossible, i would think adding offline rendered effects would be possible.

right, that's what i'd think

ie like any bit crusher directx plugin - hyperprism sonic decimator for example
the wav itself is still in 16 bit but sound like 12 or w/e

course that's DX

And I haven't tried this one yet, but automation of the effects (in the mixer screen) via the qlinks.

not to hi jack the thread but.....roxstar..u have some HOT beats

really diggin the joints you have posted up on myspace

Programming a bitcrushing system wouldn't be very hard from a programming point of view. In theory you could have it on the same menu as the Timestretch option, however because the mpc functions at 16bit it would still have to be a 16bit sample with a bit crushed effect applied, while this effect would sound exactly like a lower bitrate file for devisors 16 (e.g. 8bit, 4bit, 2bit and 1bit), settings of other bit depths (e.g 12bit) may not sound exactly right but a pretty close sound would be achievable.

^ all that is stated from a general programming point of view and should apply to the MPC, however for one reason or another which I am not aware of this may not be possible (e.g. maybe JJ has reached or be too close to the max size for the MPC rom flash to have enough space to add such a feature).

Oh and back on topic....I'd still like to see 6pad grid mode scroll rather that just the bottom line change.

Also a heigher ppq would be nice but I can't help but wander whether the 96ppq is what creates that so called "mpc groove".

the idea of the game's kinda nice, but there's little reason for it other than to take up now valuable mem space and/or create boringly sparse sample jams...that i could do better otherwise with a tennis ball bouncing on a levelled mpc pad bank....incidentally

: )
