But yo, if there is limited space to do more additional things to the OS, why not take the damn pong game out. I'd rather be able to write to cd instead of playing a game on a green and black screen. Actually, I'd rather JJ add anything that can help the beats than play pong. Nice idea and it's cool, but I can play games on my phone, computer, playstation or anywhere other than my drum machine!

i think everyone is jumping the gun on the whole "running out of space" scare a little bit. i dont know if you noticed, but at one time in the jj os progression (i think in the early 4 series) the code shrank, i forget by how much but it was a lot. jj had done something with the way notes are recorded, and this, unless i don't remember right, was why the size dropped a little.

"housecleaning" is always a viable way to get more space, and we dont even know we've hit the ceiling yet.

but yeah pong would have to be the first thing to go IF space ever gets to be an issue.

Space seems to already be an issue. By adding the expanded 300,000 notes, it removed funtions of saving to the flash rom.

I want this loading option:

If you select a folder with samples to load there should be an option to assign each samples to pads in a new program automatically. If folder contains more than 64 samples it will make two programs, if more than 128 samples there will be 3 programs and so on…

Would be great when we have so much memory now.

This is at the top of my list as well.

cant u guys use the pc/mac apps?

bluebox, pgm maker etc.

looking for an mpc-in house- method eh?

You can use PC/Mac applications for many things. But that is one function that I would prefer the MPC can do. The JJ OS can automatically assign one sample to a program at a time. This should be modified to allow multiple samples to be assigned to a program in one pass.

yep, i'd like this too..

None of the apps i tried have can assign more than 64 samples to more than one program. It would be a lot faster not to have to use the computer for this.

yep

one of the best things about the mpc in general is that there's little need for a computer, dont get me wrong tho' i work like mad on my mac, but ive allways loved a simple 1-on-1 with a specific bit of gear getting great results, be it a mc202, or a dmx, or asr, and now, my mpc.

its like it trains you not to spread yourself too thinly using loads of tools, just fully honing down yer craft on that one peice of hardware.

yeah no kidding man
cool thing about mpcs (or at least mine) is that it seems liike the more you work with it, the less you NEED anything other than a sample source.

i have so many oneshots/bass tones/etc etc on my mpc that there's little need need for anything else until i'm ready to track out - not even reason, which for a long time provided nearly half my sounds via midi sync and then later programmed from in the mpc.

since i can't take reason with me when i take the mpc to work/out and about there's no point in working in reason unless i'm going to resample it onto the mpc.

yeah, ive not used reason much,
i'd prefer Digital Performer and a few Virtual instruments,

the only thing i dont have in an mpc - (and i know this is silly 'cos its not mean't to even remotely try to create these) - are live synthesis bits n bobs, i gues thats why i'd love the mpc JJos to incorporate recordable value changes to fx params, to make static samples more fluid......yeah programmable fluidity - thats the only thing i crave when i'm in mpc-land.

but its no biggie, its a pretty good midi workstation too, and with its audio ins, i can run midi externals loads and just mix them in.

in fact - what am i on about, my nordG2 engines the ferkin sheet! super midi synth, loads of ins & outs, and super programmable (ooops with a mac though), but these two together are awesom really.....no need for anything else.

have you ever used the elektron stuff, machinedrum etc...? that can sample now.... SPS-1UW

you'd be surprised how cool you can get using the mpc as a sequencer.

have you ever heard of wave saw? i think that's the name of it. it's a freeware program in which you can draw your own waves to loop for synthesis. pretty useful for the technique below

by sampling saw, sine, triangle etc waves and trimming them to one wavelength/setting them to loop, you can do some wild sht.

very easy to set up. put a sine and a triangle together on a pad/add a lowpass left at 100 with the res at 100. tweak the levels of the pad layers til the saw/sine sound the way you want it, then autochrome the pad.

now while playing your little synth, play with the qlink values for filter, resonance and other things...this is how i've been making most of my basslines lately, as well as low-volume harmony tracks and more subtle synth backing.

i have not used any elektron OR nord stuff actually. pretty much mpcs, other smaller samplers and software/control surfaces are the only thing i've really used.

yeah totally, i used to do that sampled wave on my eps/asr10's, but they had ace filters, so was perfect for this,

i must admit, i've never bothered on the mpc, (i'm from the genus that used to think akai's were wack sample workhorses - not designed for anyone who tried to do things differently....i was wrong of course, it is a tool, and its up to the user to work out where the latent power is for each device.

and for me, the mpc's power is partly down to the hardware interface = mega swift workflow, and off the cuff - jamming....and partly down to it being a 64track midi workstation....

blah blah,

anyway off to make more beatzzzzz.
