sample rate -- the number of measurements per second

bit depth -- the number of steps away from silence for each sample

bit depth (amplitude resolution) is an interesting concept in relation to
sampling since its the real content of a digital stream of audio. the sample
rate is not represented implicitly in a stream of large numbers, it is
understood beforehand. each sample in the steam is an actual plot some
distance away from 0 (silence), either positive or negative. these
measurements come at a predefined rate per second (sample rate). you
can visualize this best with a grid, where the horizontal lines represent bit
depth (Y axis), and the vertical lines represent sample rate (X axis).

the bit grunger effect makes me wish
i could punch all of akai collectively in the neck.

RESAMPLING AT LOWER BITRATES WOULD BE AMAZING!!!

mail from JJ:

"MPC1000 does not support an 8-bit audio file."

i don't think it's gonna happen.
oh well

Well, here is the thing:

You can get that 8 bit, 12 bit, etc. sound, just perfect, by simply running a proper plugin on the sample... and you can get any sample rate below 44.1K perfect the same way. When it comes to digital, a higher bitrate and samplerate can perfectly emulate a lower bitrate or sample rate. If it is the sound you are looking for, you are good.

But, it would be cool, instead of the bitcrusher effect, to have the old-school-mpc effect that would set the sample rate and bitrate to 12 bit 40k MPC-60 sound, without having to do it on the samples.

bit quantiser yo
everything stays in 16 bit but the bits sound like they are old school
forget replacing bit crusher though (in fact yank bit crusher out, fking useless) just put it in there next to timestretch as an offline destructive process

I'm sure the MPC1000 will sound much different. Whether you think it gonna sound like a decimation plugin or not is yet to be seen (or heard for that matter).... so again, it's gonna sound different... maybe better, maybe not. I'd rather know than speculate, as well as having a different flavor right inside the unit. That's more to experiment with in conjunction with all it's other sonic capabilities...[/quote]

Here, Here!
If it's somthing you can Implement through the O.S. that the hardware will support then, Why Not? I second and support this Idea.

im all for the jj to give us a bit reducing effect (either an update on the booty bit grunger... the high, low, and mid options would be rather enticing on the ear   ) or have resampling options like 8, 12, and 16 bit would also be awesome.

bit quantizing..... hmmmm.... that's alot of math there  .... i bet jj could do it. :D

if they could figure out how to make the q link sliders useful. then they could also find a way to give us "bit manipulation" options on our beloved yet handicapped mpc's....

if an sp 303 can have "lo-fi" options that sound pleasing (personal opinion. fire away... :P )

then my mpc 1k can do the same if not better.

who likes the filter effects on an mpc 3000?

i would loooooooooooooooveeeeeeee an emulation of that!

:D

(ps fuk akai cuz i fukked with an mpc 2kxl *i do luv the pads tho* 2 wks ago that sob is slower than alga surup... if ya hood you know how sloooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow alga is!!!!)

the mpc 1k on the inside is a BEAST!

The MPC 3k's filters are really nice but I think the overall "warmth" attributed to the 3000's sound is really due to it's D/A converters.

And I agree the 1k is a Beast!

you guys think the 3000 has something over the 1000?
