FAT32 strikes again? Unfortunately it's the only way to allow cross-platform compatability. Believe me if I could format as HFS+ (Mac) and the Akai software would read it I would. Maybe that's something for JJ to look at (ie separate OSs that allow either HFS+, NTFS or FAT32 formatting) since my guess would be that the vast majority of users are single platform.

This shouldn't make any difference. A .wav file is always a .wav file no matter what file system its saved in.

My point was that with FAT32 you're lumbered with 11+3 for your file naming and that by breaking that convention 2500 users are having problems.

That has to be the stupidest quote of the century.

How the hell you meant to chop up a long arse sample on a small 240 x 64 dot LCD?? I'd rather use a 19 inch monitor and recycle thank you very much

Use the qlinks and a pair of ears and eyes. That's how to chop up a long arse sample on a small 240 x 64 dot LCD. Its really quite simple.
Why did you even buy an MPC with its "small 240 x 64 dot LCD" if you don't know "How the hell you meant to chop up a long arse sample" using it. Have you read the manual? Patience and skill is required, not just a few clicks of the mouse and hey presto its all done for you. I can see why you might wana do this, its not for me tho. Sorry for voicing my option and having said "the stupidest quote of the century". Don't be such a **** man chill the f**k out. I'd rather not use recycle to chop stuff because its lazy IMO. What next, a "generate song" button so you don't even have to write songs? I use a PC as well as my MPC but think if you try and use the mpc to chop everything, instead of taking the easier way out you might enjoy it and prefer it. But whatever I'm bored with this now and no doubt you'll come back with some more hyperbole remarks.

What the hell are u on about mate? i'd rather start making music straight away than spending 6 years tryng to edit samples.
Music is about a vibe. A vibe you get when u hear something. Now, would u rather keep that vibe alive by quickly chopping it in recycle and exporting to the MPC or cutting the sample on a small arse screen for hours then realise later it was a shit sample. Now thats a waste of time!

I bought an MPC coz its quick to get things done. I dont need to load up samplers on my mac and waste unnecessary cpu.

And I've read the manual man, which is why I know I prefer recycle to chop. Small samples are fine to chop on the MPC, not long ones.

You're seriously a clown man.

a bit of a conflict there, eh?

doesn't take me 6 years to edit samples on the mpc, and i prefer chopping on the mpc instead of on a pc. whatever though, man. do you.

but do you sample on the mpc or are the inputs on the back of your machine just for show now?

By arkay Sun Feb 18, 2007 6:21 pm
I sample on the mpc.

We're talking about long samples here dude.

Long samples are annoying to edit on the MPC.

The MPC is quick to make a beat but to edit samples, the screen is not big enough.

Maybe you lot wear Timmy Mallet glasses or something but I cant see a thing on it!

i used to have a sampler/sequencer that didn't even have a graphical display so i barely even use the wavform on the mpc. it's all about using your ears.

By arkay Sun Feb 18, 2007 6:55 pm
Recycle doesn't chop your ears now does it?

"Recycle doesn't chop your ears now does it?"

huh? what does that mean?

you said, "Long samples are annoying to edit on the MPC. The MPC is quick to make a beat but to edit samples, the screen is not big enough. "

i responded by saying "i barely even use the wavform on the mpc. it's all about using your ears." that means it doesn't matter how big or small the screen is because i don't use it, i'm using my ears. i don't understand how your response even relates...

so, you say the screen isn't big enough, i say don't use the screen, use your ears, and you say recycle doesn't chop your ears?

Dude, this is too confusing..

I think we're on different pages when we're talkin bout long samples.

I'm talking bout long song samples to find peaks to chop. Like a minutes worth of audio, or even longer.

If I was messing around with a sample, ofcourse I'd chop what sounds good, but this is if the sample is small or quite intermittent. Continuous music (long sample) is harder to chop on the MPC.

Thank you very much.

God bless you and merry christmas!

i use a mac on osx10.4...

and i've had this once or twice a while back, it sounds stupid, but i couldnt work it out, except that every wav i tried and worked had the extension fully like '.WAV' (ie: caps, and def had the extension) - ones that didnt work were often mac friendly samples that had hidden extention file type, or was in lower case, ooooerrr - sounds well dodgy i know...so..i hope this helps as opposed to makes it more confusing....

if all else fails... try to resave the particular wav's on the mac, incase there's a tiny binary error....(clutching at straws now! : ) )

for what its worth u lot scrapping about how best to chop audio files....
like anything , if theres a tool with an unsurpassed way of acheiving a desired result, and its available to you, use it ! unless its an issue of 'style/taste/fashion'

we've only got more or less 70 odd years on this one off organic supercomputer......
