this is the number one feature i'd love to see added and i'd def pay $30 for it

certainly would make a serious hit with electronic producers

it'd be very cool to have a sampler which imitates all of the most popular sequencing methods.

step, grid, xox...

lets get this noticed by JJ. Can someone on the board who has mail contact with him (Stan, Nym ?) tell him ?

he's undoubtedly real busy with the new features he's already said he'll be putting in there
but let's keep this as a definite "would be nice" if you get me
i always start feeling a little bad for requesting and requesting, especially while i'm not actively using my mpc to be a bug reporter

this would be a great feature

I love the x0x style on my 707

having it on the MPC would be killer !!

alien_brain wrote:hey, what do yall think of roland style beat programming? like with the 16 buttons that represent 16th notes in a 4/4 measure, and you plunk on steps to put events in or take them out... you could even set velocity or flam before hand. if the pattern was longer than 1 measure, you could just rotate view until you were on the measure where you intended to make a change. simple stuff really. i say it would add a new facet to the appeal of the mpc line, and perhaps set a precedent for future akai hardware.

I think it's a very inflexible style of drum programming. I prefer real-time recording and shuffing beats around with an editor.

i agree but i think that's the point - what you and i see as inflexibility will encourage a certain type of programming that is more fitting to genres driven by mechanical programming - certain electronica and dance stuff. especially with the growing popularity of x0x style programming in hip hop (all that south stuff is very x0xy) it could only benefit to learn how to work it.

i agree with you.

xox is great for fast fills when you set it to 32nd note mode. stuff that would be impossible to do real-time, and difficult to program out super-slow or stepwise.

it is also good when, like me, you feel like all your beats sound like the same boom-bap and need something to push you towards a different sound to keep things fresh.

I have been searching for a good step-sequencer for the PC for this reason....Tried out a Xbase09 but didn't love it (Did love sertain things though)

Anyway i found a fun program called SQ4 you can download and demo for free if anyone is curious to test the benefits of a "deeper" step sequencer...
Whether this program can be automated by say a BCR-2000 or even MPC with note on/velocity i don't know....That would be really cool though.

BTW I bet someone smarted than me could design a step sequencer in Reaktor that would link 64 steps up to the MPC pad banks......

With all due respect, if you want a good step programming sampler, get a Korg ESX-1... they are only like $400, and way better suited for that sort of thing. The whole point I purchased an MPC was for the MPC style sequencing.

You wouldn't use a hammer as a screwdriver... you shouldn't want to use an MPC as a groovebox. Jack of all trades, master of none.... I would much rather see JJ do something to improve the MPC workflow, than to make the MPC a shitty imitation of a groovebox.
