Ok... What's the ultimate swing setting??

I think each setting typically applys or will affect the outcome of the overall song, so I just keep my shit at 50 and do my shit manually, maybe I need to try some higher settings for some more flavor, but I typically am programming my drums to my melody maybe I need to try to make some hot drums first with a little swing

what does it affect?

it effects the timing of the drumtrack. say you make a simple drumtrack. the default swing setting is 50% right? listen to it now. sounds like a robot drummer right? now change the swing. take it to like 59 press do it. now listen, it sounds like its got a little more soul to it now right? It sounds like a real drummer. If you take it all the way up to like 70% though, sometimes that "real drummer" starts to sound to relaxed and loose. around 57, 58, or 59, the "drummer" is playing real tight but not robotic. just mess around with it smoove. youll get it.

I usually chill around the 60% range myself.

Around 60-65% for me on 1/16. Occasionally 70-75%...BUT...

THAT'S ONLY FOR THE BASS & SNARE DRUMS.

If you are doing hi-hats in quarter note (1/8) patterns or sixteenth note (1/16) patterns, PLEASE keep the swing between 50 & 60 (unless you are deliberately trying to make jazz music). It's cute sometimes, but most of the time it sounds corny. I come from a drum background (been playing since about '85) and I've been messing with the MP for a few months now. I find that you could have your drums stiff as h***, but if you merely swing the hats a little bit, you'll have that "lazy" feel you're looking for. Most of the time I turn the quantitize off when I do the hi-hats and play them at 16 levels (velocity).

1/16 always 60% on my kicks and hihat

i have it turned off for looser styles but for swung or skippy stuff (like some house) benefits from a bit of swing...

remember note placement comes after sound/velocity/note length in importance (well in imo)

i know that this is a mpc-board, but I also know that some/alot of you uses or know how to use an asr..

anything over sounds to swingy, but i know the 2000 reacts a little different than the 3000/60.

regardless, i change it per track though. and i usually shift my snares higher or lower than the kick.

yesterday i was playin around wit 1/16 60%. didnt hear tooooo much of a difference, but it was enough to please my picky azz.
