i think theyre saying that the 12 bit sampling of the earlier models sounds 'better' which is entirely subjective.

depending on the type of production (genre) you are doing. Historically speaking, 8bit and 12bit sounds better for hip hop. for pop and rock or virtually any other genre, 16bit has a more clean sound than that of 8 or 12bit.

that is, unless you have a few plugins on your puter. then 16 bit can sound any way you wish. seriously.

true but he was just referring to the mpc. of course with a computer in the equation, you can make any sound, sound like any sound.

I have not looked in the manual as I am at work, but can the bit rate be adjusted on the 1000? ie lower bit rate...

no.

Actually there is a 'bit rate' as well, thats when you multiply the bit depth by the sampling rate to find the overall bits per second required by the file (iirc).

I wouldn't be surprised if some older samplers referred to 'bit rate' in their manuals/interfaces.
