first of all, which protools do you have? mbox, 002? which one? next, the m-audio uno is just a midi cable used (in this reference) to sync the time. midi does not record audio. you will have to get 1/4" cables to connect from the back of the mpc to the inputs of your pro tools. if you tell me which one you have, then i can walk you through the rest.

truth is i have not tried hooking it up with MIDI yet. Previously, I've always just done the mixing, added effects and what have you within the MPC. I did, however, try and record track by track, then go back and trim the regions so that they would match up, but found it very laborious.

I know there has to be an easier way...help.

getting back to Sparq...here's the set-up.

1.) MPC 1000 (via 1/4") ---> 2.) Mackie 1402 VLZ-Pro (via 1/4") --->
3.) MBOX (the old one)

basically if you don't want to record 'track by track' you would need a sound card with more inputs, then you could record up to 6 tracks at once.

midi will only help with the trimming step, because it can synchronize the mpc and computer so the recorded chunks line up with the beat automatically.

you need to send 'midi clock' or 'midi time code' either from your comp to your mpc or from the mpc to the comp.

one needs to be set to 'midi master' the other to 'midi slave'.
